Swift - Pillow falling out

Post by denise1768 » Wed Jul 18, 2007 1:20 pm

Hi,

I've been using the Swift mask for about a month now with no problems. The last 2 or 3 nights, the right nostril pillow keeps falling out to the side. Has anyone else experienced this?

I clean the pillows and my face every night.. headgear is securely fastened.

Thanks.

Denise

Could be several things. I noticed this after about a month on my optilife too. Some people swear by a part vinegar wash to get any residual oil off that could be interrupting seal. I didn't explore that because at that point I got the swift--yeah!

Another possibility is that the silicone is wearing out. Some insurance companies replace pillows VERY frequently, though I am not sure of the typical schedule, perhaps one month is a typical lifespan?

That is all I can think of, sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks! I'll try a little tighter, but I thought it was already a little snug. I use a feather pillow as well so that helps when turning on my side. Just strange since it just started happening.

I had that problem with the Swift. As a side sleeper, it didn't work for me. The Optilife has been the best nasal pillow mask for me. There is less stuff to get in the way of the pillow. I use a feather/down pillow too so I can push it out of the way of my face when I sleep on my side.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I can't imagine them wearing out so soon, but heck, you never know! I'll keep messing about for now and see what happens.

The optilife looks interesting, but i prefer sleeping on the back even though i find myself sleeping on my side lots of times.

I have a hybrid trade coming to me so i'll see what that is like

Have you tried the rubberband trick? Place a rubberband on one of the top posts where you hook on the headgear. Bring it over the top of the shell, and hook to the other top post. This will hold the nasal pillows a bit closer to your face and a bit closer together, and they stay there all night.

The Optilife stays in place even better when I'm on my back. Only one time did the headgear come off in the middle of the night. I think that was because it had been over a week since I had adjusted the straps. The head gear does stretch some.

I haven't. I'm having a hard time visualizing this though. I'll have to look at it when i get home.

Thanks.

For some reason, i thought the optilife was for side sleepers only.

I'm a back sleeper and the optilife annoyed me in that position because of the hose coming down the front. It bugged me because it was always in the way of one of my arms. The swift is great bc I can route the hose up the side and have it drape to the back of the bed. No longer in my way. I WISH I could sleep on my side, but thanks to aerophagia, I can't.

I sleep fine with it on my back. Like Sockknitser said, it bothered her. I am one of those people who don't like the hose going over my head. It always seemed to make my nasal pillows pull my nose up. That doesn't happen with the Optilife. It is pretty versatile IMHO. I tried 7 masks, and that is the one I really like so far.

I want to try the Nasal Aire II though.

Sigh.. hopefully one day there will be the most versatile, comfortable, no leak mask made.

If it's worth anything, I've slept on my back almost all night the last 3 nights because my hips are sore. My leaks have shown 0.0Ls these nights. As far as comfort, I'm fixed on the Optilife. Maybe that will change when I try the Nasal Aire II.
