DME knows more than ME

Post by cjp » Tue Apr 05, 2005 12:34 pm

I am using a remstar plus at 8. I feel better but am still tired. Looking over my sleep study I noticed because of pain I could not lay on my back during the test. I was titrated on my left and right side. I thought being titrated on your back would show more apneas/hypopneas? I do sleep on my back but could not because of back problems that night.

I am trying to get the new Remstar auto with Cflex. I have checked with insurance and I have to follow their routine. Dr., DME, Mills hospital then Healthnet. My doctor agrees for the auto w/cflex. She sent in a presciption to the DME,for it.

I just received an email from my DME. In the 6 mos. I have been with the DME I have only seen her once. We have argued about everything from the beginning when she sent me home with my breeze and air blowing around my face and she said that is how it is suppose to be? Thanks to this forum and rested gal and snork 1 at the time. I called back to get the large pillows. She wanted me to pay. Anyway she did me a favor and would not charge me this time for them!

The email she sent says in brief: "The machine you requested, a Remstar Auto with C-Flex, is actually two different machines - an auto and a cpap unit with CFlex. A machine with two different features together doesn't exist."

Has anyone filed a grievance with Healthnet of California?

I left a message with my doctor to call me. So until I hear from her I will be sitting here stewing!! I was told by my insurance I have to go through all the channels before I can file a grievance. But it seems to have stopped at the DME. I can't talk to her because she knows everything. Has anyone experienced this and won?

Thanks,
cjp

I've been fortunate that I've not had any problems out of my DME.

If I were in your shoes, I'd probably march right down there with a print off from the respironics site showing which machine it is. How can someone that has no clue what they're doing have that job??

Good luck.

Your email can be brief as well:

Manufacturer: Respironics
Part Number: 1017453

You could also an address of site that sell it, e. g.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1607

If you want to be nasty , get the address of her suprevisor(s) and send your email with a quote of hers...

Best of luck
O.

The funny (or sad!) thing about that particular know-it-all-DME is that all she had to do before firing off her ignorant statement was take a minute or two to call the toll free number at Respironics and ask them: "I've got a patient who says she wants an auto with C-Flex. There's no such thing, is there?"

Or before smearing egg on her own face, she could have just Googled for the words "auto cflex".

Gives new meaning to the old saw: "Listen to the patient." heheh.

I don't want to start the war once again against DME's, but once again, sometimes the DME doesn't know all the features of what's out there. We've had some very good and nice poster DME's, who actually value our opinions.

I have the PB GK 420E. Mine can be set to auto or cpap. So if you're DME says no, standback, as this msg board will be an eye opener for tht rep.
Some DME's truly know far less than you already do.

RG what are we to do, the DME says the machine that we have doesn't exist. Great I guess I was sold a fake Remstar Auto with Cflex, and the software downloads are probably faked just like the moon landing. IT is probably a conspiracy of the space aliens from area 51...

Ok, now to be serious. The reason that they deny its existance is because Respironics doesn't show it under the searches on its site.

But, you can print out the fda approval The show them the interview on CpapTalk Here

Get a new DME. There are many out there (maybe not so many from the looks of it) who will be willing to work with you. I am lucky with mine, anyway.

Maybe we have all been duped! Some sick individual has just stuck those pretty blue C-flex stickers on our plain vanilla REMstar autos just to play a mean trick on us.

Seriously, these are the kind of medical practitioners that should have their licenses revoked. If they sell Respironics machines you know that the Rep has been in there with the Auto WITH C-flex literature for months.
Sincerely,
wading thru the muck of the sleep study/DME/Insurance money pit!

MAN! I'm feeling better about my DME every day, and I haven't even met them in person yet!!! Talked to the precert person today, who told me that they have the REMstar Auto w/ C-Flex and heated humidifier in stock, so when my insurance approval gets back, one belongs to me! She also heard what I had to share about the Aura, and said that they didn't have them, but on my recommendation, they would definitely research what they needed to do to get some in stock! Wow! This might be good! Now, if the RT will turn out to be decent, I'll be a happy camper!!!
