I wondered if anybody else has taken clonidine and had their sleep patterns wrecked. I started taking 0.1 mg twice daily with 20 mg of lisinopril twice daily for hypertension. I've been taking lisinopril for several years and not had any trouble with my sleep but my blood pressure starting rising again so the doc added clonidine. From the first night I took it, I started waking up every two hours just like clockwork. Before clonidine, I only woke up once a night and was able to go right back to sleep. I noticed on the drug information sheet that it is also used for ADD and hot flashes. I pity the person that takes the stuff for hot flashes. I've also started having a really bad night sweat around 4:00 a.m. and can't get back to sleep until time to get up. I only get a few hours of fragmented sleep now. I don't have any software with my machine so I don't really know what's happening. I just wondered if anybody else had had a similar experience. I hate the stuff. I'm getting my doc to change the prescription when I go back for a check up in August but until then, I'm stuck. I'm on county health care and they really won't do anything until you have an appointment. I went to the ER when I first started taking it but they said to make an appointment to see the doctor which I did but the earliest I could get back in was in August.

Lisinopril and Clonodine
I have been taking both Lisinopril and Clonodine (20mg and 1 mg twice daily) for hypertension since before starting CPAP in 1999. I do not have any problem with fragmented sleep.

I am not currently taking Clonodine, but I had to take it last year before my left adrenalectomy to control my BP which would spike very suddenly and very high(220/140) along with a fast pulse 120-156 even with all the other blood medications I was taking so I was prescribed Clonodine to use at that time as an emergency drug to lower my blood pressure until my surgery which brought my blood pressure back under control. I did not note any fragmented sleep from it, in fact, it tended to relax me and help with my sleep. Everyone re-acts differently to medications though and you are wise to consult with your physician and follow his advice.
