Did I get rooked ?
Did I get rooked ?
Just bought Remstar Plus -- from supply division of hospital Was told it was a new machine. Plugged it in at home and the display had the number 180. Thought it was some sort of code. After using it an hour, the number changed to 181..... Duh. Machine cost alone was $1500. Insurance covered it. Very little patient education involved in the whole transaction. But I did specify I wanted a new machine. Supplier stated 4 times that it was new. They gave me no choice as to model etc. Any gentle advice ??
I'm now with the others -- you probably didn't get what you asked for.

I have the same blower. Have used it for 17 nights and have 127.2 hrs on it, about 7.5 hrs per night. I bought my unit new from cpap.com and it had "0" hrs on it when it came out of the box. If your unit had 180 hrs, and the average user clocks 6 hrs a night, that's 30 nights. Seems to me you probably got a unit that was returned from a one month trial.
As to your original question, "Did I get rooked?". I would say yes, and so did your insurance company....... I paid $549 for my machine with heated humidifier and cpap.com still made a profit. Maybe the extra $951 was a refurbishing charge.
I'm sure the hospital won't do it, but if you can return it for a refund and then buy it from cpap.com, you would have enough left over to start a very nice mask collection like the rest of us.

Can tell you that it is not refurbed. I bought 6 Remstar Pro's with Cflex that were refurbed, each had a couple of hours on them. (Think that they let them run to test them but not sure) The most any had was 6 hrs. 181 hrs sounds like a return. That probably borders on fraud, as they are charging the insurance company the price for a NEW unit. Sounds like another EVIL DME story. If you can get reimbursed, get your script, and get a machine from CPAP.COM And if you are planning on getting a straight CPAP, get the Remstar PRO2 as it has the ability to record events that can be displayed by Encore Pro Software.
Zorro,
There are two time readings on the display. When you plug it in, you will see a brief (second or so) time, which is the "machine hours", ie the total time on the macchine, including manufacturer's testing. The machine then reverts to the "therapy hours". When I got my REMSTAR Plus, it read about 4 hours on the machine hours, and 0 on the user hours.
So, my conclusion is that you do not have a new machine.

Aha -- Thanks !
OK -- I see. Very much appreciate the information from all of you. Off tomorrow to try and straighten this out. Maybe they'll come through.
Just had another thought. For a little more ammunition before confronting your supplier, give Respironics a call and ask what that "180" should have been. Your supplier wouldn't be able to argue with that.

how things went
OK, so things went well. The supervisor of the resp ther was there and took over -- agreed situation needed correcting and did. Of course, it's just a little scary that the original resp therapist is in the health care field at all -- However tonight is the first night of relief ...Thanks for the input.
