What ahi do people get?????

Post by painterman » Sun Jun 24, 2007 8:47 pm

I have been getting on average about 2.4 ahi. Sometimes I get up to a 5 ahi and my best was a .7 ahi. I have gotten two days below 1, a couple of 1.2s, a couple of 1.4-1.6 but most of the time I get between 2-3 ahi. I was talking to my RT and she said anything under 5 was good, and that anything under 10 was also ok. She said I was overachieving to want it better than under 2-3 ahi. What does everyone think? Does it make a difference to go from a 2-3 ahi down to under 1 ahi. Is is worth the worry and constant trying different things to get there?

I run a AHI of under 0.7 for the year avg, but I use what works for me and I work at it. If I have a few days over 3, I can tell it. With the hybrid leak rate you probably are as good as it gets. I try to keep my leak rate under 35 LPM, if I go over 40 LPM, up the numbers go. Jim

Before treatment my AHI was 150!

My current 7 day average is just below 3. I use the Resmed Mirage Activa mask...

I would guess that you're running your Auto in a range of pressure....?
You didn't say what your settings are, but you have the software to be able to monitor what should be the best pressure(s) for your therapy. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out if you really want to get lower AHIs.
My suggestion is single pressure or a narrow pressure range. Even with a single pressure, I occasionally get some AHIs in the vacinity of 1.5 and on a really rare occasion, something around 2.5......but normally it's below 1.0 or just barely above 1.0. My overall average since the beginning of my therapy is 0.9. For this year (so far) it's 0.8.
I had higher AHIs using my Auto in a range of pressures.....and the pressure changes disturbed my sleep.

Sorry Den, I should have mentioned more info. My range at this time is from 12-15 and I am using A-Flex 1. I am thinking of narrowing it down to maybe 12-13 so I can still use A-Flex. I think A-flex is only available in auto mode and I really enjoy it. At some point I will test to see if c-flex gives me better numbers than A-flex. You never know what affects what until you test things. Thanks for your input Den

My average AHI for this past month is 3.7. I've only had 2 nights under 2 and I've had 2 nights over five. Last night I had 400 snores. I have a straight CPAP so I don't think I will be able to get my numbers under 1. I still feel tired but better than I used to feel. My RT said he would try to help me get an APAP to see if that would stableize my AHIs. Everyone says that under 5 is normal... according to my sleep doc, that means you don't have OSA anymore.

APAP 15-20....Average 90% Pressure 16.2 ......Last 90 days AHI 2.1

I believe I could do better if I could control leaks that I experience with Swift Nasal interface, problem is, I like the mask. I do not wake soon enough to correct the problem encountered while rolling around during sleep. Any practical suggestions will be appreciated that might address this.
Average Max Leak 107.5
Average 90% Leak 70.2
Average Leak 54.3
Average Large Leak 19 Mins.
