My uncle was diagnosed with severe OSA several years ago. When I started experiencing gasping, choking, coughing, along with feeling aweful most of the time, I talked to him about it and then talked to my MD. She ordered an oximeter, which showed my O2 sats dropped several times into the high 70s -80s, so ordered a sleep study for me. I was diagnosed in May with moderate OSA.
I talked my mom (her brother is my uncle) into asking for a sleep study as I was postive she has it. Sure enough, she has moderate OSA.

Our MDs all say we have very small airways and large tonsils, which is genetic and contributes to having OSA.

I'm hoping my young son will not eventually have OSA. He is blessed with the family trait of huge tonsils and a small airway. So far no snoring or signs of OSA though.

I'm convinced my hubby, who snores like a freight train and has a few other symptoms, has OSA. He, however, is in denial and refuses to get tested.
I've decided it's his life and I can't make him do it. The more I push the more he pushes back and scoffs it off. Hopefully he will stop being so stubborn while he still has time to do something about it.
