mirage swift nasal pillow

Post by chriml » Sat Jun 23, 2007 3:19 pm

I just got the mirage swift nasal pillow. I tries it on and it feels kind of weird. I don't know if I will get enough air through this. Will I get used to this?

Every time you try a different mask it will take time to get used to it. You have to give any change a week at the very least. Of course if you have pain or can't get it to fit correctly you need to stop sooner. If you can get the mask to be comfortable enough to fall asleep, keep using it. Tweak as needed. But use it at least a week before you call it a failure.

They pushed 14 cm through one of these at my titration study. I expect you'll get plenty of air, unless you have an unusually high pressure.

Getting used to it is another matter. What Brenda said.

Yes I will give it time. I am new to this and only used a nose mask for 10 days. I thought this would be better because I like to read or watch TV in bed. Thanks!

Have some Ayr gel or chapstick on hand for sore nares. Use the Ayr gel liberally and the chapstick sparingly.

I love my swift. Used it exclusively for the past year.

I have tried original Swift. I was not able to get use to the noise.
Swift || claiming 65% noise reduction. Not sure if it is true.

Well I couldn't seem to keep it in my nose. The air was blowing all over. I kept trying to adjust it and finally took it off about 4.00am. The clips were hurting my head also. Did you have that problem?

How much air is suppose to blow out of the vents on the nasal pillow? It seemed like alot.

For the pain from the clips, you can go to http://www.padacheek.com and get a cover for the headgear. Or you can just PM padacheek, she is a forum member and cpap user who is dedicated to making all of this more comfortable.
The exhaust vents do put out a good bit of air. It should be a steady stream of air that will wash out the CO2 in the mask. Keep tweaking the headgear till you can get the nasal pillows snug. Give yourself plenty of time to play with the adjustments.

" Keep tweaking the headgear till you can get the nasal pillows snug". Not necessarily.

I had the best results from loosening the headgear and upping the pillow size. The pillows just floated against my nose and the air cushion took care of the seal.

Good point, don't go too small on pillow size.

Not too tight on headgear

Also try a strap to stablize the whole thing.

3" ace bandage loosely under chin to over crown of head. That keeps mine from slipping when I toss around, also supports chin.

As I have said, I look really stupid, but I don't care, I am sleeping and sleeping well.

And yes, LOTS of air blows out the vent, that is normal.
