Waiting on hubby to come home from 2nd sleep........
My husband went in for his first sleep study Fri morning. He works night shift so he sleeps during the day. Now it is Saturday afternoon and I am waiting on him to come home from his 2nd "sleep"!
Friday afternoon when he left the lab to go to work the tech told him that on Saturday he would be sleeping with a cpap machine with a full mask. Apparently he is a mouth breather.
I am so excited......maybe we have finally found the culprit (sp?) of all his illnesses in the past 6 yrs (the entire time that we have been married!). The last straw was when 3 wks ago his blood pressure was so high they were afraid that he was going to have a stroke and put him on BP meds. He is only 43 yrs old and in fabulous shape. Weird.....he doesn't snore, not overweight (works out and lifts weights 5 days a week) but battles what we thought was adult ADD, anxiety, depression, major fatigue (never rested), ED and now high blood pressure.
Funny thing, my only worry is that he will have to shave his goatee off because of needing the full mask!! LMAO
My fingers are crossed.................I am praying for excellent results!!

Do be sure to let us know how he does during his titration study! We're sending good wishes his way!

Hmm shave my goatee off and use my CPAP every night AND fix my ED!!
Orrrr
keep my Goatee suffer with mask leaks AND still have ED!!
I know which one I would be choosing!!!!
Well actually I know which one I did choose (well my wife made the choice easy for me hehe), I only had a mustache though.
Sorry Christy I couldn't resist...I know CPAP made a positive impact for my wife and I, I hope you can say the same in a couple of weeks!
I hope your husbands titration study was a success!!

SAGINAW??? Gracious, I live not far from Saginaw. Have lived in or around Saginaw a good share of my life! Not my favorite part of the beautiful state of Michigan, this flat low land valley. The entire rest of the state is so beautiful w/green rolling hills, trees, running water or lakes of one size or another. Your hubby is a generation younger than I am.

I have a beard and a full face mask and although my leak rate seems HIGH to me, my ahi is very low, and I don't even move when I sleep and I get almost a full 8 hours a night and dont fall asleep while talking to people anymore, nor do I feel sleepy, moody, restless, nor angry like I used to.
As long as the numbers are low, it looks like a higher leak rate is compensated for by the machine (or at least that is what I have been reading here).
No need to lose the facial hair, probably.

Thanks for all the replies!
My Hubby's titration went pretty well we are thinking!!
He felt great when he woke up this afternoon! He slept for almost 7 hrs.
It is midnight, Saturday night and he worked last night, Friday night and usually he can't stay up this long, he is usually nodding off by like 8pm!
I can see a real difference this evening.
What stinks is how long do you think it will be before he has a CPAP in our home? The tech told my hubby that the results will be at least a week before they get to the DR!! UUUGGGHHHH!!
He used the chin strap with the nose "thingy" today not the full mask, he told me that he still wants to try the full mask though. He said his jaw was kinda sore from the chin strap!
Excuse the "thingy" comment............remember I am a newbie, but hope to be well informed and with a lot of knowledge soon!!!

Christy,
Start reading, reading, reading!!!
One thing that will help is to get a mask fitting session scheduled ASAP. Call the sleep center and ask if they do this...WITH a machine ON at his pressure and with a bed available to test it out. If they don't check around with other sleep centers and DMEs. Nasal masks are great for alot of people but some of us do much better with full face masks...and had to really push to get one which I don't really understand. So when you make an appt. be sure to tell them you want him to be able to try a number of each type.
Make sure you go with him to the sleep Dr. and go armed with INFO. Knowledge is power! The yellow lightbulb at the top has lots of info and anything you don't find the answer to just ask.
Good luck to your husband and you! Many people feel great the day after titration and then sickened by the fact that we feel terrible again shortly after that...and the wait for a machine can be frustrating. It's ok to be a polite pest and get his results/Dr. appt for ASAP. Let him know that it's worth the wait!!

How wonderful that he slept so well and felt so rested after his titration! I well understand the FRUSTRATION with the WAITING.
