Hi Ozij, Yes, I'm strictly a mouth breather- deviated septum plus I'm blocked up sinus' most of the time- I'll infact be switchign to the Oracle which is strictly mouth breathign only as it's abotu the only mask I'm cofortable with- My mouth even dries out during day just breathing- been that way for most my life I guess- kinda used to it now, and it doesn't bother me-- just get up in am, a quick swig of water & all is fine really- The Oracle htough is really going to dry mouth out I'm sure- but it's the mask I do best with so far.

I live in the desert where the ambient humidity is often below 10% (right this moment it's 12% but there's a storm coming in; it will be less afterwards).

I keep my humidifier set at 3 in the winter, 2 in the spring and fall, and 1 in the summer when it's so hot we have to leave the swamp cooler on overnight.

I ran out of water once and woke up choking because my nose was running so badly (I'm sure you all wanted that image, now).

I didn't use one for five years and then the last RT insisted I get one because she said people mouth breath because their throats are dry. Because I mistakenly thought my insurance would pay for it I bought one. Well I can see now difference, but will try it this winter.

I just use mine as a passover...when I remember to fill it up. I can't really tell much difference with or without water. The heat bothered my asthma and I would wake up congested, so MD said don't use it.

Quiet frankly I am kind of lazy person, sort of reluctant to learn anything new. And with CPAP stuff – there is a LOT you have to learn besides humidifier. I do have one, but for year and a half of been on CPAP I still reserving this “humid lesson” for future. I understand that I might be wrong. I might feel much better with humidifier. I think I will start that lesson when winter will arrive.

I started with a 3 on my humidifier, but had rainout problems. After a few months of use, I switched to passover only. That seemed fine. I am in a moderately humid climate (at least in the summer, which is about 6 months long).

When I travel to a dry climate, I have trouble with mild nose bleeds. I just came back from a vacation in Colorado. I wasn't keen on hauling both the cpap machine and the humidifier around, so before I went on the trip, I took the humidifier off the machine for about a week and a half to see what would happen. No problem.

Then I started thinking -- maybe I will need humidification in a dryer area. So I took it along. Was really glad I did. Used the humidifier at a 2 every night. I still had some nosebleed problem, but I believe it would have been much worse with non-humidified air blowing up my nose every night.

In the Pacific Northwest I find that I don't need a humidifier. I certainly did at first, but not anymore. My doctor supports my not using one if I don't seem to need it. As far as I'm concerned, I'm happy to have one less thing to fuss over.
