With all this enthusiasm for C-Flex going on, I want to mention the phenomenon of Breath Stacking .
see http://sleepapnea.wikia.com/wiki/CFlex
I loved using C-Flex when I first got it.
Then my partner woke me one night because I was panting heavily. Later I discovered is was due to Breath Stacking so I turned off my C-Flex and haven't turned it on since.

I remember seeing some study done by Reperonics showing that people that used C-Flex actually slept for more time per night because of the increased comfort.phorts wrote: After reading a lot more on EPR (C-Flex) and A-Flex it seems it's really only helpful for people who have trouble breathing out against their pressure.

They didn't on the REMstar Auto (classic tank). That machine, like yours, had exhalation relief only in CPAP mode, not in Auto mode.
The first Respironics REMstar Autos did not have C-flex at all for years.Goofproof wrote:The Remstar APAP Classic, has Cflex in the auto mode, the setting mode is called aflex, it also has a auto mode without cflex. Jim
Then a couple of years ago they added C-Flex to the "classic" pre-M REMstar Auto. When they added that, it has always worked as Jim described -- in both cpap and auto mode.
Can also be turned off completely if it bothers a person, as in the breath stacking that John Mudie described, and WillSucceed experienced, too.

I also think that A-Flex should remove or reduce 'breath stacking'.rested gal wrote:tillymarigold accidentally guested wrote:They do on the M series Auto (either C-Flex or A-Flex).phorts wrote: I see why ResMed doesn't enable EPR during APAP but am curious if Respironics enables their C-Flex during APAP?

The combined effect of C-Flex (also included in A-Flex) exhale relief & the new A-Flex inhale relief - from what I can see - remove the prossible cause of breath stacking & some types of aerophagia.
This is a feature I would like to try. There is a good chance I can get a loaner from our RNSH sleep clinic.

aflex
for what its worth I vote for the aflex
had a tank- auto with cflex
had chance to get new aflex- went for it
it is quieter- so my wife says
I dont like the blue lights but thats easy fix
she also says I sleep better with it- I agree- it simply is more comfortable- I pulled the mask off my face this morning when I woke up to see if it was working- kind of half asleep and remember thinking I was just breathing normally- no fight to exhale or inhale- just normal breathing- thats nice!
you can set it up aflex or cflex
you need version 1.8 encore to read the card
I have it to try -have used for a week. am planning to purchase

afex
I also vote for aflex. I started my therapy about 6 weeks ago. i started out with a m series apap with cflex. My main problem at that time was the aerophagia. I would feel like a big balloon and I would be passing gas in both directions all day long besides feeling pain and being uncomfortable. My prescription was 13 and I was running the auto at 11-14. Long story short I was able to trade my auto cflex for a auto aflex.. I was hoping that it would help my aerophagia in some way and it has. Since I started using aflex, I have not had any instance of aerophagia like before and I have been using it for about 4 weeks now. On top of that it is so easy to breath with that within several breaths it has figured you out and the breathing is so easy. In the middle of the night I have to pull up my mask to make sure it is working and I get blasted by the air usually around 12-13 . It works for me!!

Dude! Babette, go for the A-flex! Reading this makes it sound awesome and very comfy. I'm glad you have the option to get exactly what you want.
And any more news on the fraudulent DME saga? Did you get those heartless, money-grubbing bas***ds in trouble?

Okay, so the model I'm hankering after:
M Series Auto CPAP with A-Flex
https://www.cpap.com/productpage-advanced.php?PNum=2486
Lets me do Aflex in either Auto or cpap mode?
And has data capturing capability?
Sounds like I picked the right one!!!
Jen, it will take probably a couple of weeks to get the insurance/dme thing straightened out. I'll update you when I know something. I don't expect the insurance "investigation" to happen quickly. I'll go along for a little while longer, then probably just decide "today's the day" and order the APAP online and pay OOP, and hold off on claiming a reimbursement until the insurance/dme thing is straightened out.
Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula.
