Thanks for all the input. This is what I told the patient but I just wanted to see if any one else had ever heard of someone doing the same thing. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong in my answer. I feel better having more answers to back me up. Thanks so much!

Just a thought, although I understand the problems engendered by the scale in the humidifier tank:

Isn't salt a preservative? (Think of salt pork, etc.)

Would it inhibit bacterial growth?

In other words, would there be any positive reason for using NaCl in the humidifier water? (Of course, I am not advocating such a practice. This is a new wrinkle in the "what may I safely use in my xPAP system" vein.)

I just wondered, after reading the thread!

Thanks,
Karen

OceanPearl, If you follow TXKajun's process, after some more time, the Great Salt Lake may be the Bonneville Salt Flats. Its hard enough to race cars on.

For us landlubbers, what about the smell of bream beds? Would that help you sleep?

Rooster - you tell your wife you're putting bream in her bed. Please report back her response.

Tangents is right on target! …and Kajun hit the mark too!

Actually, it only took about 20 thousand years for the fresh water of ancient Lake Bonneville to shrink down to a quarter it’s size into the current Great Salt Lake … and some folks think global climate change is a hoax … hehehe. But I guess there are still meetings of the flat-earth society … and some US presidential candidate hopefuls don’t believe in evolution either … go figure!!

Oh, my bad!

Well, now you know. I'll say anything for a laugh. Even if it's not factual.

Hey, Gonzo, why do ya think they call the Bonneville Salt Flats the "Salt FLATS"???!!! LOLOL Yep, give Utah another couple of millenia and they may have the Great Salt Flat instead of the Great Salt Lake.

This thread has turned into a very entertaining and informative one! Thanks everyone!!

You mean those salt flats were NOT created by that Utah golden arches company overly salting its french fries?

I've been accused of going too far off topic so I'll try to reverse that on this one.

To get back on topic you would have to add Dreamstalker's climate change (limit new water and increase heat) to Kajun's vapor pressure explanation. Then Salt Lake is a giant humidifier losing water and leaving increased salt (and other stuff) and Bonneville represents the crust that would have to be removed sometime or another.

I think we're back on track now... until someone tries to figure in CO2 buildup, cflex, or taping vs gluing.

Chris
