PAP Pillow - no more mouth leaks

Post by jrgood27 » Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:32 am

I bought a PAP pillow - one of many desperate attempts to tolerate CPAP -and the way the sides of the pillow fit under my chin (sleeping on my side) keeps my mouth from dropping open. No more chin strap/mouth taping/chipmunk cheeks for me.

A very nice and unexpected surprise. Still only can use the machine for 5 hours tops, but at least that one item to check off.

Jenny
12 months, 10 masks, 3 pillows, 2 chin straps, still failing, but not giving up

Jenny, if you haven't already, you might want to try the Pur-Sleep products. They are not for everyone, but it makes CPAP a LOT more tolerable for some people.

BTW, I have no financial interest in the product. Just my observation from reading several posts from people that have tried it.

Good Luck.
Steve

Gosh love you Jenny, you're a fighter!!!!

Thanks for that tip! I will have to put that on my list of possibilities. I still don't know how much mouth leakage I'm getting right now, because I haven't got a data capable machine yet. So, when I do, then I'll be addressing that issue, if it needs addressing.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FORTITUDE AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND KEEP US POSTED!

Cheers,
B.

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

And you know this, how, do you have a machine that captures full data and the software, to tell you how you are not mouthbreathing? Unless you have someone to sit up with you while you are sleeping, and count your breathing patterns all night.

Please fill in your profile and let us find out how you do this. Jim

Because ...

1) My machine shows my leak rate.

(I finally filled out my profile though- thanks for the motivation Jim. )

2) I sleep so lightly that the minute air starts escaping from my mouth or my cheeks inflate I wake up.

I'm not a mouth breather btw. My mouth drops slightly open and the air escapes. The PAP pillow seems to keep that from happening b/c it's anchored under my chin.

I haven't tried Pur-sleep Steve. Thanks for the suggestion. And thanks for the positive energy Babette, it really made me smile. Jenny

I don't automaticly trust the ResMed leak rate, You have to use the correct mask setting to be close, I'd venture to say most are set incorrectly. I like to do the math myself. And also Welcome! Jim
