Bought RemstarM with A-Flex, now help explain please

Post by mrammell » Sun Jun 10, 2007 9:26 pm

OK, I've used this machine for 4 nights. My machine is set to CPAP. Pressure is at 12. It is noisier than my Remstar Pro2, kind of makes a "grating-rubbing hum" Anyway. Bright lights bug me, but cover those with a folded wash cloth. One can select CPAP or Aflex. The machine came with a note indicating pre-set to 4-20 pressure. If I have it set to Aflex, it seems to stay at "4" but I'm just laying there watching the thing? Dumb question, but is this machine capable of adjusting based upon my breathing pattern? Does it automatically range in pressure as needed up to 20? How, when I need a setting of "12" constant do I make the transition to Aflex? I'm sure this is elementary for many of you, but I haven't used anything but a fixed pressure machine. Help

I'm not a doctor, but if it were me and I'd been prescribed a straight pressure of 12, and were going to use an autopap...I'd set the range for 9 or 10 as the minimum pressure and 16 for the maximum pressure. I'd turn on A-flex and set it at its middle setting.

I wouldn't use ramp, and I'd be sure that a setting called "Split Night" (in the M series autopaps) is set for 0:00.

from what your saying it sounds like an Auto.
Are you supposed to use an auto pap? if you leave it on its default setting of 4-20 then it may not work for you as I have found with my machine.
I have set my minimum pressure to that of my tritated pressure and its been better. I dont know about Aflex settings I only have the Cflex option and the setting of 1 is good enough. Its alot quieter than my old cpap. I made it even quieter and took care of the light problem by cutting out a hole in my night table drawer and putting the whole machine in there with the hose coming out of the bottom of the drawer.
I put the stuff that was in there originally into a shoe box and tucked it under my bed.

you say you can set Cpap or Aflex, that doesnt sound right to me. Aflex is the comfort setting that works with your breathing, its supposed to breath with you so you will be comfortable. Cpap or Auto should be your choice but thats only in the setup menu.
unplug and hold down the two arrow buttons and wait till it beeps if you want to fiddle with your own settings.

you would have to go through the Provider Setup sheet, it should have a "tree" there with the parameters. I have NOT seen that machine myself yet so below may be off or incorrect, but should still be close.

Like most Remstar's, to enter that mode you hold down the <- -> arrow keys while plugging in the power in the back, wait for 2 beeps, release. Then press the (+) key, you are in setup mode.

Next to navigate to each of the fields, use <- -> arrow keys to move to next field, then (-) & (+) keys to change field values or toggle to available modes.

First parameter should be the mode.

mode= AFLE (other options might be CPAP, CFLE, AUTO, AFLE etc.).

Auto:Min= 10 (default = 4cm, bump it up to 10 if you are used to 12 CPAP, try some comfort for a change).
Auto:Max= 15 (default = 20, until you know what is going to happen, I wouldn't let it run wide open).

CFLE= 2 (options are Off, 1 2 or 3, could also be AFLE)

Mask off Alert= enabled/disabled
Split Night = Off

Press On/Off button to exit Setup mode. You are going to have to experiment with those A-Flex or C=Flex settings, I suggest starting at #2 then you can go up or down from there.

But your problem appears to be the Minimum pressure of 4cm, I would be starving for air to breathe that low. It should be a minimum of 6.5cm. Those machines come set wide open at 4cm to 20cm.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...

When I got my a-flex I set it up exactly as rested gal stated. It worked great for me. Good luck, it is a good starting place if nothing else.

My titration was also at 13.

The instructions that snoredog gave are correct, it is in a tree and it is easy to set.

with x-pap you to can be supercharged
