I've been using the F&P Aclaim mask now for a while and really like it, with one exception -- I don't like the hose-over-the-head configuration. I'd like to get a mask exactly like it, just with a hose that hangs down in front, but I can't figure out which of the other F&P masks would be the closest match. Does anyone know? CPAP.com says the 406 is the same as the 407, just smaller, and that the 405 is an 'upgrade' to the Aclaim. I'm tempted to try the 406, because the Aclaim is just on the borderline of being small enough for my face, but I'm concerned that it won't fit the same as the Aclaim. Can anybody help me out with a timeline/relationship between all these masks? Thanks -- Minerva
difference between F&P 405,406 & 407?

Re: difference between F&P 405,406 & 407?
The Aclaim II mask were prone to failure due to a design fault, so F&P replaced them under waranty with the HC-405 design about 3+ years ago.minerva wrote:Does anyone know? F&P then further developed the HC-405 design into the HC-406 and HC-407 models and as far as I'm aware dropped the HC-405 from new production (though parts are readily available). The HC-405 at least has the same cushion and seal as the Aclaim II.... I dont know if that continued into the HC-407.
I started out with an Aclaim II which was replaced once under warranty and when the second one failed in the same way the first, it in turn was replaced under warranty by an HC-405. My HC-405 is still going strong (with various consumable parts replaced as appropriate) and for me the "fit" was the same as the Aclaim II.
Cheers,
Bill
I don't know anything about the history of the Aclaim and the 407 but I do have the Aclaim 2 Small and the 407.
In addition to the obvious difference of the hose position the actual shape and size of the mask cushion is considerably different. The Aclaim 2's cushion is a skosh wider at the base of the nose with more flare from bridge of nose to base of nose and the bridge of the nose area is a skosh wider than the corresponding areas on the 407. I haven't had the opportunity to try the 406 yet but I have been told the 406 is the same as the 407 except a skosh smaller and thus often referred to as a small 407 or the Petite 407.
Since the 407 is a skosh too long from bridge of nose to base of nose for me I'm thinking the 406 just might give me a much more comfortable and better fit.
I definitely need the narrower base of nose of the 407 than the Aclaim2 because I have a very definite line or crease from the nostrils to the mouth and the 407 gives me a much better fit in that cheek area than the wider Aclaim 2.
The Aclaim 2 does have a wider or more overlapping silicone (or whatever material) cover over the cushion itself which I think might be a plus and lessen a tendency of the edges of the cover to cut into tender face and nasal skin. EXCEPT there is LESS overlap of the cushion at the very bridge of the nose and therefore is MORE prone to cut into the tender bridge of nose skin than the 407.
Since the 407 doesn't have the over the head hose attachment it is considerably lighter weight than the Aclaim 2. The headgear on both the Aclaim2 and 407 are the same aside from no need for the center head strap on the Aclaim 2.

Debbie, have you ever used the ComfortGel Petite? I was wondering size-wise how the 406 compares with it. Do you like the 406? Is the headgear comfortable? Have you had to modify it at all?I use the 406 and so far it is the smallest most comfortable nasal mask. The 406 is a petite and it is quite small. Everything else has been to large. I donlt know anything about the Aclaim but, I can tell you this is a lot smaller than the Comfort Classic Nasal Mask in a small.

By George, Cathy, I forgot I had the ComfortGel Petite here. I don't remember WHY I used it for a week and then set it aside. I "think" because my wonderful 02 DME gave it to me to try the same time he gave me the Simplicity Small to try and I had such good luck w/the Simplicity I never went back to the ComfortGel.
He had told me to keep the CG even tho I told him I had decided on the Simpliity, bless his heart. He had also told me to keep the Aclaim 2 when it didn't work out and he brought me the CG and Simplicity. Or vice versa.
I have no 406 to compare the CG to but I do have the 407.
The 407 is a skosh lighter in weight, barely noticeable in hand, not sure how noticeable when wearing it. (Who can wear two at the same time?)
BUT the adjustable area at the bridge of the nose of the CG vs the rigid piece of the 407 is a real BONUS in my estimation as that angle from forehead to bridge of nose is a real problem area for me.
As with the Simplicity, the CG is a narrower nasal cushion in shape than the 407 and this would hold true for the 406.
From the side there is a deeper indentation to the cushion at the bridge of the nose w/the CG. Again this would hold true for the 406 as w/the 407.
I do remember what I HATED tho was the straps snapped to the CG. I found the 407 strap slot easier to manage for me. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that is why I stayed w/the Simplicity now that I see those snaps and think about it.
I tried the CG in cold weather. Now that it is CONSIDERABLY warmer here, like HOT and humid, I'm wondering if the CG's forehead one piece"cushioning" might not be hotter/sweatier than the 407's 2 pads.
Doggone it, I think I'm gonna try this CG again tonight and see how it does for me - other than those *$^#& snaps I know I don't like. Thanks for asking about the ComfortGel and reminding me I had one here!!!!

Cathy...
So far the 406 has been the ONLY mask I can keep on over a few hours. What I like is how small and light it is. The head gear fits pretty well. I may add a strap across the top of my head because I prefer them. I am awaiting the delivery of a comfortgel petite so in about a week i can give a fair comparison. If you have trouble with masks being to big then I think you may like the 406. Oh yeah and I really prefer the hoses that go down the front of my body. I don;t like the over the head types and the 406 is in the front of the mask.
