I finally received the written report of my sleep test and have more information. I will not be seeing anyone to explain these results for four weeks but would really like some analysis of these results from the experienced folks at this forum. Please advise on the seriousness of my condition and on what these numbers mean.
PLM Analysis:
Number 61 Index 13.0
Oxymetry:
Mean oxygen saturation was 94% with a nadir of 86%
Impression:
1. Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea AHI 52
2. Improvement of Sleep Apne WITH cpap OF 9 cm appearing to be most effective
EKG:
Normal Sinus
The longest sleep apnea was 21 seconds in duration.
What does this all mean?
Please help me with my sleep test results

Hi,
I'm not the greatest at interpreting this stuff, so I hope you get lots of good responses. But it seems your apnea might be considered severe due to the number of apnea events. Your recommended pressure is relatively low or medium (mine is 18, high, compared to your 9). Hope you get some more help. Good luck to you.

In the little under 5 hours you slept during your study, your limbs (normally legs) twitched 61 times. They average it at 13 per hour. This could be caused by low oxygen saturation associated with your Apnea, or it could be separate from it. (See http://www.rls.org)PLM Analysis:
Number 61 Index 13.0
PLM is not serious unless it is associated with arousals. In other words, if it's not waking you up, or shifting you into lighter stages of sleep during each event, no need to treat it (or worry about it for that matter).
You average Oxygen level was 94%, the lowest being 86%. (Over 95% is considered normal)Oxymetry:
Mean oxygen saturation was 94% with a nadir of 86%
The clinician is indicating that you have a severe case of Apnea, you had 244 respiratory events during your sleep study, the average per hour being 52. You also showed improvement on CPAP with 9 CM of pressure.
EKG:
Normal Sinus
Your heartbeat remained within normal limits while you slept. Normal Sinus rhythm is 60-100 BPM.
The longest you stopped breathing was 21 seconds. Anything over ten seconds is not considered normal. The longest sleep apnea was 21 seconds in duration.

Your legs twitching means you have RestLess Leg Syndrom. You are not alone I have that.
I was diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrom on my very first sleep study. I had a second sleep study done with a MLT and then I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy, but my results pointed to Sleep Apnea. I was then put on Amphetamine Salts for the Narcolepsy.
I moved to Wisconsin, new doctor and a new sleep study which confirmed with the second study, it wasn't Narcolepsy but Sleep Apnea. Go figure.

I know what you mean.
I asked for my chart from my old sleep disorder doctor and when I got them, I asked my then boyfriend to look at the test results and what the doctor had to say.
He told me I needed another study because I have SA instead of the Narcolepsy.
I am trying to figure out how to hug at night since I have a full face mask and he has the nasal.
I can get approval for CPAP, but a power chair is a whole different story.
