Transferring Encore Pro data between computers...??

Post by dllfo » Sat May 26, 2007 10:44 pm

My laptop died, taking a year's data with it. I have back up on my desktop,
but following the instructions with Encore Pro for transfer did not work. I think it is XML files we transfer. My memory is so bad, I don't remember what I did now.

Anyway, anyone with the patience to list the steps, one by one would probably do a lot of us a big favor. The nurse at NJC said they would be interested in seeing my scores under different conditions.

I guess I could take the desktop back with me, but that is not my first choice.

Adult supervision appreciated.....

I have Encore Pro 1.8.65 but could not find it listed
under software.

Why don't you copy files to a small, portable USB data device (thumb-drive) or burn a data cd? All the files you need should be in the EP folder(s).

In Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) search for folder/files, chooese the ones you want and select "copy to" or "send to - cd burner".

I do not recommend this approach. Use the Encore Pro patient export/import as suggested by wolftracker. Then take the XML file on a USB key or CD as suggested.

I have a backup hard drive that hooks to my USB, I will try that one.

I just tried to bring Encore Pro up on my new laptop, it WAS working fine until
I got a malware last week. I now get a box saying:

Unable to connect to specified database

Can I reinstall Encore Pro without deleting the data that is already there?

Sorry, 2 questions in one.

No luck exporting, my computer locks up. Both the Dell laptop with XP and
the desktop with Windows 2000 Pro.

Also, Mozilla is killing me lately. It shuts me down two or three times a day,
generates its little message leaves me fuming. I am back in on old Netscape 7.2.

I went to the archives about problems with XP, I followed them, but it did not
solve anything. It still says The installer was unable to start the MSDE.SQL
Server....The top of the little box says "Database Instances Installer".

Back to the laptop, if I reinstall Encore Pro, will it destroy the old data?

So neither of my computers will export my data and the old Compaq will not allow it installed. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Where is my sledge hammer when I really need it?

Believe it or not that is normal behavior for Encore Pro. You just have to be very patient. If you leave it long enough it _will_ complete (its dog slow) and the UI will become responsive again. (poor software design)

OK, thanks, I will start it and go do something else.

Firefox dumped me again, anyway, I can't start the MSDE.SQL on the other
laptop. I like having multiple backups if I can.

I have went back to archives for Derek's notes and I already have sharing set up. So that wasn't it. I will read some more.

Thanks, Dave
