I know what you mean about not counting on you (me) for things because it all depends on what happened the night before. I'm counting on life being great again very soon!

10 is working great!

Post by robbieh » Sat Jun 02, 2007 11:24 am

I'm now getting some real sleep! I stopped the mouth breathing and feelings of smothering. I do sometimes wake up with my mouth open but I'm not breathing through it. Still have trouble with a stuffy nose but I don't need to snort Afrin in order to get the cpap to work. The pressure is keeping my nose open now. I woke up a couple of times to check if the mask was still on! The pressure seems high when I first put it on but sometime after I fall asleep, I seem to adjust and don't notice the pressure. My AHI's have fallen from an all time high of 10 to 4.9 last night. Since that is an average of the past 7 days, it is probably even lower than that! I ordered the software and reader this morning so I will have a better idea of what is happening in my sleep.

My sleep doc appt. is June 7th and I will be asking for copies of my sleep studies and ask how severe my OSA was before treatment. I did not know to ask that when I saw him last.

Thank you all for being here. This is an awesome support!

Your stuffy nose might be caused or cured by your heated humidifier. Some people say turn the heater up, but I found the opposite worked for me.

I turned my heated humidifier on at night, and I don't have that stuffy nose any more. I still have water in the reservoir tank, but just let the air pass over the unheated water. That is called "passover" humidification. I'll probably use the humidifier heater sometimes in the winter months if my throat gets sore.

So try it both ways, and use whichever method helps.

Great news Robbie! Glad to hear it! Hope your day went well. We missed you, but I for one learned alot. And came home with two new masks! Woo Hoo! She who dies with the most masks wins!!!!!

I'll keep the forum posted on future Swedish workshops, or any other ones I hear of.

Cheers,
Barbara

for the suggestion about the humidifier. I believe I will try that tonight. I woke up last night about 4 am with a plugged nose, desert dry mouth and sore throat. I had nightmares and slep terrible. I had to use Afrin finally but with poor results. I know my nose is a big problem, I think I need to see an ENT. I don't want surgery or a full face mask but will do whatever is needed to not go through another night like that!

I thought about you last night! Glad to hear it went well. 2 masks eh? How did you score those? I am beginning to think I will need to at least have a FF mask on hand for night my nose blocks off. What masks did you get? Definately count me in on the next meeting!

I got a NasalAireII and a ComfortFull2. See my report on the NasalAire II in the new thread I started. The CF2 I haven't slept with yet. I just laid down and tested it for a few minutes. I want a backup FF for congested nights, too.

Do turn on your humidifier. If you can't stand it down on the lowest setting, just put water in, turn the heater off, and do passover.

Cheers,
Barbara

Hey Babette

Post by robbieh » Mon Jun 04, 2007 10:17 am

last night I was terrified of waking up with a plugged nose so I dosed up good on Afrin. I also turned the heat off on the humidifier. My nose was not a problem last night. There was one slight problem that woke and kept me up for over an hour... a bat! Somehow a bat got in the house and I was awakened by my hysterical roomie who kept going in another room and slamming the door. Had to open all the doors and windows and flap towels at it until it finally made its exit. Kinda hard to go back to sleep after that lol!

My AHI is still dropping. This morning it was an average of 4.1 for the past 7 days. That is down from 10! My friends have occassionally told me I was full of wind... this is one time it is good to live up to that!
