That has happened to me also. Try a very small amount of vaseline rubbed inside your nostrils and see if that helps.

The irritation is much deeper than I could get vasoline, if I wanted to use that, which I don't. Petroleum products don't belong up there!

i agree with you that vasoline doesn't belong up there, but have you tried a nasal moisturizer? even though the irritation is high up, the nasal moisturizer may help bring moister air through your passages

also, before my septoplasty, i had a terrible time with sneezing and congestion (i know you're talking mainly about burning, but you mentioned sneezing, too) and it turned out that along with my severely deviated septum i had a vessel that had enlarged enormously (think nasal "hemorroid", LOL), and when the air or any kind of scent or chemical hit that spot i would have a burning sensation followed by sneezing...could be that it's something like this that has taken this long to develop? anyway, i second needinz's suggestion of having an ENT check it out...i had the vessel chemically cauterized in my ENT's office, which didn't end up being enough, and had to have it electrically cauterized during my septo surgery., but now, no more dryness, no more burning, no more sneezing...just a thought

Yep, and the thought of a nasal polyp comes to mind as well.

In my case I have a slightly deviated septum. If I lay on my right side, sometimes the right sinus seems to fill up or plug up. If I roll to my left side, the feeling of the mucus draining to the left is HORRIBLE! Kind of like burning, multiple little electric shocks, or really ticked off nerves; and then the right sinus clears and the left isn't at all plugged or irritated. Rolling on my back takes longer for that right sinus to clear but is every bit as uncomfortable whilst doing so.

Allergies were suggested to me too. That doesn't make sense to me when it is only one side that gets in a twit.

This was all solved by the acquisition of the superawesome HC-150 external humidifier.
