Absolutely! I suppose you'd like me to find the lyrics to those, too....

RATS! Now I'm gonna have THOSE stupid songs in my head till I go to bed.

Many patients have told me that they had some nasal discomfort (inside the nares) for about the first week with any kind of pillows mask and that after the first week or so it wasn't an issue anymore.

I remember the song, Wulfman and it was the first thing I thought about when I saw this title, too. If you replace the word "baby" in the song with the word "Swift" or "Swifty" to keep the rhythm, it fits the situation pretty well, don't you think?

Swifty, Swifty,
You did something to me...

I couldn't sleep at all last night

Just a thinking of you..
Swifty things weren't right
Well I was tossin and turning
Turning and tossin
Toss and turn all night..

I kicked the blankets on the floor,
Turned my pillow upside down...
I never never did before..
Because I was tossin and turning
Turning and tossin
Toss and turn all night..

Jumped out of bed..
Turned on the light,
Pulled down the shade
Went to the kitchen for a bite..

Rolled up the shade,
Turned off the light,
I jumped back into bed
It was the middle of the night...

The clock downstairs was striking 4
Couldn't get you off my mind...
I heard the milkman at the door..
Cause I was tossin and turning
Turning and tossin
Toss and turn all night..

Jumped out of bed..
Turned on the light,
Pulled down the shade
Went to the kitchen for a bite..

Rolled up the shade,
Turned off the light,
I jumped back into bed
It was the middle of the night...

The clock downstairs was striking 4
Couldn't get you off my mind...
I heard the milkman at the door..
Cause I was tossin and turning
Turning and tossin
Toss and turn all night..

Because I am a side and front sleeper, I changed from the Swift to the ComfortLite II. The Swift did break seal very easily when I shifted to my side. With the CLII, I can sleep on my side or front and hadly ever spring a leak. Thus, I am sleeping much better and not wasting treatment.
Plus, if you nose tends to get sore, the mask comes with two types of interface. It has the pillows and a nasal mask. You can switch back and forth. I found the mask was not as easy to keep sealed though. I have had no soreness from the CLII like I did with the Swift though.

I got some sleep last nite My nose is only a little bit sore today. I do have the vents right, they are just like the picture.. what I did was some minor adjustments so that the bottom straps fits more towards the bottom of my neck. It took just a couple of stitches and it stayed put. I also readjusted the straps, thinking they were too tight and the soreness is going away.
although I got up at 10 today, I cant do that normallly. in fact I have to be up early to work tomorrow. I've been setting my phone alarm for 10, so that I can get to bed earlier. Previously since I wasnt sleeping, I'd stay up to 12 or 1 and get up at 6:30. so I'm making changes. Thank you all for the ideas. Hopefully I can keep on this trend. 1 nite does not cure all, but it makes me feels better.

One successful night leads to another and another. Keep up the good work!

Last nite was rough. I was awake for most of the nite. Just couldnt get my eyes to close. I was tossing and turning. The cold air from the mask hits me and keeps me awake. I'll get almost asleep and something will move then I have cold air blowing on my arm, or hand or its just aggravating!!! I forgot the nite before I took a benedryl and slept really well. Last nite around 2 am I took a half one. I had to be up at 7am to be at work. Lucky me!! Is taking a benedryl good therapy?

The Swift was the first mask I tried when I started this adventure three weeks ago. I had all the same problems you have had with it. I am also a mostly tummy sleeper. I finally gave up on it. I do remember having to hide my arm/hand under the pillow or blanket to avoid the air. I found that the swift cushion was too wide for me. I like to kind of smoosh my face into my pillow, and it would knock the side of the cushion and break the seal. I was constantly either waking up to fix it or lying awake waiting for it to happen!

I have noticed that one thing has kept me awake with every mask so far. Since I'm still getting used to the whole CPAP idea, I find myself worrying about mask leakage and whether I have everything set right instead of just going to sleep. Last night was the first night that I thought "The heck with it; if it leaks, it leaks", and didn't worry about it. The result was that I slept really well for the first time in three weeks, and when I did waken in the night, the seal was intact.

My DME has loaned me 5 different masks (one at a time) over the past three weeks. See if yours will do the same so that you can see what is the most comfortable for you. I am currently trying to adjust to the Opus because I find that I can sleep on my tummy really well with it. I didn't like the ComfortLite 2 because of all the headgear.

And I wouldn't suggest Benadryl (or any drug) as a regular sleep aid unless it is prescribed or you really need it. I have heard that it can help some people in the beginning of CPAP to take the edge off. I would worry about becoming addicted to it.

Good luck with your DME this week. Keep trying; you will find what works for you!

Bonnie

I've used benadryl at night when I was particularly stuffy (tree allergies). It did help me adjust but it definitely shouldn't be used regularly unless advised by your doctor.

I'm starting to appreciate the easy adjustment I had to my Swift. I have extremely sensitive skin but my only complaint is the Nike Logo on my cheeks in the morning.

Try padacheeks for the strap marks. http://www.padacheek.com or just PM Karen, she's a forum member.
