traveling by train need advice

Post by storminnormin » Tue May 15, 2007 5:29 pm

I'm going to Colorado from Indiana on amtrak train. Does anyone know how easy or hard it will be to find a plug in? Am I setting self up for a "bad night." I purchased a Puritan Bennett Goodnight 420sp for a backup and travel machine. We'll be traveling all night coach fare.
I can't go one night without my cpap or I end up in great fatigue. I found this out the hard way when one night my hose came off at 2 in the morning and I didn't discover till 6 AM. (my software told me what time it came off) Can't believe I didn't wake up when it happened.
Appreciate any experienced people who have tips on this.

I found it hard to get just an outlet

I took Amtrak almost 2 years ago from east coast to west coast and at that I was no CPAP user

My concern at that time is to charge my camera and laptop
May of us walk around from car to car just to find electrical outlets

sometimes of there isd one in the middle of the car, it was badly deisgned so that you cannot even plug in your device.

yous can find them in the middle of the car or if it is a two storey long diatnce one, the one down near the toilets

Or you can go to the Restaurant/dining place - there is one in the not easy to find place...

What I found the best is the Californian train, each seat have its own electrical outlet, and all are well located (not like Amtrak where is is partly hidden by the seat)

cpapernewbie,
Thanks, for the information. We're taking the "California Zephyr." I'm assuming that's what you're referring to when you mention the California train. Glad to hear it has outlets at each seat. I'll be miserable if I have to sleep without CPAP. Thanks so much! stormin normin

Last time I was on Amtrak was 5 or 6 years ago going from Chicago to Glacier Nat'l Park. Conclusion at the end was that the k in Amtrak stands for kids. Parents allowed them to run up and down the aisles and from car to car as they pleased! Very noisy and hard to sleep. I'd pop for the separate accomodations for the relative quiet and the private bathroom facilities. If you can't do that, take earphones and a battery oprated cpap machine. Also a coverup as the RR will sell you an "blanket" at an exorbitant price.
