In response to some who want to know how the bed cooler is made, here's a digest of how I fabricated it:

The shirt is the same one posted by Rooster.....split up the sides.....opened out....and placed between (2) 3/4" thick wool pads purchased from The Company Store.

The shirt is attached by 1/4" clear vinyl tubing from Lowe's using quick disconnect fittings......to a heat exchanger.......fabricated using a computer power supply......hooked to a computer cooling water pump. The water is cooled by pumping it through a small school bus heater coil......with air blown over it by (2) computer box fans. Indoor/Outdoor thermometers monitor the inflow and the outflow temperatures. Fans are regulated by a rheostat....as is the pump motor. Water is mixed with swimming pool chemicals that prevent alge formation. All this is mounted on top of a 1' square, wheeled plant dolly which forms the chassis for the contraption.

Gerald, You are amazing.

RG, does this deserve something beyond Lab Rat Extraordinaire?

cool mattress topper

Post by Catnapper » Sat May 12, 2007 10:58 am

I just found this on the web.
http://www.medicalproductsdirect.com/mashydwatflo.html

It is a mattress pad that is filled with water and has temperature control. The first one I found had a price twice as high as this one. I wonder if it would work to keep you either warm or cool, as you preferred. I remember having one of these once when I was in the hospital and needed the cushioning. I don't remember if it was heated or not at that time, and it was long ago. When I found this, it was $55 on sale from $79. Not too pricey, considering what you pay for a mattress pan anyway.

No, I don't sell them, or even own one. Yet.

It appears to be a device that neither heats or cools, more of a flotation device. However, the area you are positioned on will heat the water some and the heat might be spread by conduction to the larger surface, which if not covered could radiate some of the heat.

Medical ones, are used that do heat and cool, but the cost would be $$$$. Jim
