Resmed Auto CPAP vs Resmed M series Auto CPAP?

Post by Gordyp » Mon Apr 30, 2007 4:00 pm

I'm seriously researching these two machines and I'm very close to ordering my Auto CPAP with C-Flex.

Can anyone discuss the Pro's and Cons' of the older Auto CPAP machine vs the M series, I see the latter is more compact and obviously more portable.

Any major differences?

Cheers, Gordy.

Wellllll, you are talking REMSTAR (by Respironics) NOT Resmed since you are referring to C-Flex and M series. Resmed is an entirely different xPAP manufacturer.

The M series actually takes up almost every bit as much SPACE as the "classic" or "tank" as many refer to the Remstar Auto w/C-Flex non-M series. The major difference being the "tank" is longer and narrower whereas the M series is "blockier", shorter and wider than the "tank". There is a weight difference, not all that much but there are times when just a 1/4 lb can feel one heck of a lot heavier!!

I have no experience w/the M series so will leave it to others to discuss the other differences, pro and con.

Let me add that there is some information available on the M LED screen that you can't get on the tank without the software and card reader.

Many folks have the tank and it is an older version but solidly built. the M is much newer and how it lasts and performs over time isn't available yet.

The M has the power on the cord and the tank has it built in to the main unit.
Pros and cons of both. Has been discussed on the board.

I have read some say the M tank is harder to fill, but I don't know as I am a tank user.

Both are praised on this board as good units.

tank or M ?

Post by whatrdreamsmadeof » Mon Apr 30, 2007 6:06 pm

I can't speak to the M series, but I love my tank, and would buy another one if I was looking for another machine. It is sooooooooo quiet.
Good Luck

My "loaner" was a tank while I waited for the M series that was on order. The M makes about half as much noise as the older one, though both are quiet when compared to some other brands. My son still has an older model. Here are comparison photos if size is important to you.

My wife likes that the M series doesn't look as much like a medical device. I like that it takes up half the space in a motorcycle saddlebag.
The only drawback I've seen is that the M humidifier holds about 1/3 cup less water than the old one. If you live in a particularily arid area that may be important but even in the coldest part of winter with the furnace sucking moisture out of the house mine always has water left when I get up in the morning.

How many ounces of water does the M series hold?

I just checked them both. The old style "tank" holds 1 2/3 cup of water.
The M Series holds 1 1/3 cup.

While I was at it I weighed them as well. The Tank (Remstar Pro 2) weighs 5 pounds and 11 ounces, while the M weighs in at 3 pounds and 9 ounces.
Both weighed with humidifiers.
Without, the M is 2 pounds and 2 ounces while the Pro 2 is 4 pounds and 5 ounces.

Did the weight of the M Series machine include the power "brick" (converter)?
If it doesn't that's not a fair comparison as the converter is built into the "Classic" model.

Don't plan on depending on the information on the LED screen of the M series---or using it in place of software and card reader. It is good for absolutely nothing. Mine has never been in any way accurate.
