my bipap died

Post by john44 » Sun Apr 29, 2007 11:38 am

My bipap has died after 10 yrs.I never went to sleep in all that time without it,and now I am having a very hard time sleeping without it.It will probably be a few more days untill I can get a replacement.Does anyone have any suggestions or tricks to help me get some sleep untill I can get a new machine? I never thought becoming a bipap addict would be a problem. Thanks John

When I lost mine I propped myself up on a wedge (several pillows would probably work just as well). I seemed to rest much better.
My neighbor slept in a recliner while hers was being repaired.
I just want to go back to sleep!

It sounds like your body has become addicted to breathing, withdrawl is hard, cold turkey. I missed one night due to a broken mask, never again, I spent most of the night in a recliner, almost vertical.

If you have to pay out of pocket CPAP.COM, is quick and reliable. Jim

At ten years I'd say you've been playing the odd's for five. What was the old unit, it did good.

Depending on whether you're using insurance or doing this out-of-pocket, you could get a machine literally "overnight" from CPAP.COM if you have your prescription. Your insurance might still reimburse you for a good share of the price.

In the mean time, you might try sleeping in a recliner. Wherever you sleep, try to keep your head tilted back so your air passage is in a straighter line.

Good luck,

If you are using a local DME, ask about a loaner or a rental.

I sure would hate to be without my machine!

My old unit was a resmed sullivan vpap 2 I had no idea what the life span of one of these should be.I recently found out my insurance will pay for a replacement every 5 yrs.I found out that CPAP.COM has a sister website for insurance called BILLMYINSUANCE.COM.The website looks identical except for the name. They seemed like a good company, but I'm glad to get a recommendation.

One thing for sure you got the good out of it, to bad you didn't get a new one at the five year mark, you would have had a backup, that's always good.

The one Den posted is my choice, if I hadn't been too cheap, I knew the APAP would handle my problem fine, and it has. Still it would be nice to at least try the Auto Bi-PAP. Jim
