You may have to disable the auto off to do this.

There is no danger of infection being spread from the water- the tank or the hose.

Marie, that's exactly what my RT told me to do - hang it over the shower curtain rod to dry. Why is it a no no???

P.S. Unfortunately in a discussion board we are unable to see or hear the nuances of what people are saying and it's way too easy to take things wrong. Let's give each other the benefit of the doubt here so we can productively help each other. I value the input of each and all of you!!!

Sometimes I wash the whole thing but usually rinse with real hot water and rinse out humidifier every day. Not too good on cleaning the hose myself. Years ago I did the baby wash thing and had to throw away the hose cause I couldn't stand that baby powder odor. Now I usually use real hot water rinses. I will probably use some kind of anti bacterial if I think I have or had a cold.
I figured Mr Mike. A good anti bacterial for the humidifier that I have used when I was having cold issues was a few drops of colloidal silver in the tank, and a weekly tank rinse with hydrogen peroxide solution.

Silver was also used as an antibacterial agent--Hey, wait! There are now bandaids treated with silver for sale!

Amazing how sometimes the old treatments come back around.

As long as they don't come up with a rapid application one called Quick Silver I'm game.

I had a pool accessory that ionized silver and copper to keep bacteria in check. I think I read that NASA uses something like this in space but can't be sure.

Yes, it can do that if you over dose on it. I've heard in some cases, the skin turned purple permanently.

Copper is cheaper ... just drop a penny in your tank and it should last for life.

Acually it was kind of a metallic grey-had a patient in the late 50's that had used it for a very long time-won't ever forget that skin color. I don't think it was colloidal silver and he had used it in ear drops.

I don't use the gadget I described earlier-just figure why buy a trombone cleaner when it will likely only get used a couple times until the newness wears off and a person is feeling more relaxed about the equipment.

Wash hose and humidifier once a month now. The mask pillows get wiped off every morning-to get off the badger balm (AKA grease!!) and wash it once a week. SEE I have relaxed. I wash the mask and hose every morning ONLY when I had an infection. If taking antibiotics-the day I complete antibiotics I clean and sanitize the humidifier, hose and mask.

And not attacking-just know people with real OCD and it is not funny for them-and humor doesn't help them-and I don't know if he is just feeling vulnerable or really has OCD. Sorry if anyone felt attacked.

hey guys, sorry i haven't posted in a while. i was kind of afraid people were going to make fun of me and think i am crazy. i really appreciate all of the great input. thanks so much for all of you support. to answer some questions, life is pretty much just going right now. i may be having to find a new place to live, my dad threatend to kick me out by labor day. i haven't done anything to deserve that. i guess i really need to start doing more around the house though, but my brothers, one my age, the other still in highschool, don't do anything and don't have jobs, and just sit around the house all day, while i work, and go to school, and he comes into my room threatening that i have until labor day unless i start doing housework and "get with the program". i don't really make any messes in the house....anyways, other than that, things are going okay. to answer someones question, i really do have ocd, i am diagnosed, and i am actually per instructions of my counselor, about to go find a new psychiatrist and get rediagnosed, its been since my sophmore year of highschool, and i am 21 now. thats a long story though. but i do appreciate all of your input and support, wasn't really fond of mr. mike's comment, or that last guy who posted last that told me i could get another disease. i was posting with all seriousness, and i was having alot of anxiety about that, that night. thanks once again everybody, and God bless you!
