They recalled 300,000 machines.
That includes yours, I'm sure.

The recall involves all models of the Resmed S8s, from their bare-bones (is that the escape) thru the Vantage and I don't remember it if includes any of the VPAPs or not.

When I called the 888 # I wasn't told whether it was the cord or the machine being replaced. It was the Recall Center that didn't even know anything about the recall yet who took my address and phone. She also said she would get back to me yet today. Since it is getting late in the day I intend to call them back.

Well, well... yes, it DOES seem to be a rather expensive power cord, doesn't it?. <G> Is it possible that the cost of the recall that was mentioned in the story I quoted from includes an estimated hit on their stock value? Just a thought. Otherwise, a VERY expensive power cord, even if we include shipping from Oz to wherever.

Neverbetter, I can only relay what the ResMed phone voice said. I just called a second time to make sure I had this correct. I do. If you listen far enough into the message (after inputting your serial number and having it verified as one of the affected machines) the voice specifically says "...in order to ship you a replacement power cord...". It makes no mention of sending the unit in for repairs, which I assume would have to be done if it was the double prong power cord connector or an internal circuit board that was at fault.

Slinky, they called me back in about 1 hour and are sending the 'information packet' out to me today. According to the person I spoke with, the packet is supposed to indicate when I can expect to receive the replacement power cord, and carries an explanation of the recall, the source of the original power cord, the number of cords that have been found to actually be defective, and some legal disclaimers. I agree the wording in the newspaper story and what the ResMed information recording and the live person you speak with say seem to be somewhat different, but they ARE saying "replacement power CORD" and indicating that they will ship this to you without your having to send the machine in to them.

So I guess we have to wait and see... power cord (as stated) or new unit (as suspected).

Getting old doesn't make you 'forgetful'. Having too damn many things to remember makes you 'forgetful'.

Thanks, BookWorm, either way I am "safe". My DME is giving me a new power cord and I will just pack up my Elite to take w/me instead of the Vantage. Thank goodness BOTH units were affected by the recall!!!

I admire Resmed for the voluntary recall but I sure do NOT envy them the headaches they'll be going thru to rectify the situation!!!!
