ResMed Respond AutoSet shuts itself off in middle of night

Post by meister » Fri Mar 18, 2005 9:49 am

Anyone had this problem yet? I am sleeping away and then the
machine stays turned on, but doesn't send any air. Ususally
happens after a couple of hours. I was wearing my mask too tight
and getting sores and red marks, so I loosened it up. I was
feeling much better, but getting "High leak in last session" messages
each morning. Has anyone else seen the machine stop sending
air during the night with a Spirit or Respond Autoset? Thanks.

Sounds like your leaks are excessive enough to trigger the AutoSet Respond's "auto off" feature. My understanding is that the AutoSet Respond can automatically turn on and off based on breath detection (or lack of).

I too have an AutoSet with the AutoStart feature "on". I happen to like it, but what I did notice is that if I "adjust" the mask in a manner that causes a large leak for too long a time period, the machine shuts off. It then needs to be subjected to an exhale to turn itself on. If the mask is not sealed well enough, it may not detect the exhale well enough to restart. You might want to consider having the Auto Start/stop feature disabled, at least until you resolve any mask fit issues.

I hate to be anal but no way to change SmartStart on AutoSet

I don't have the option on the Clinical menu at all with the Respond
Autoset, maybe you are thinking of a different model. Here is what
the Spirit manual states:

Leak Alert** Enables or disables the Leak Alert feature;
when enabled, leaks > 0.7 L/s for > 20s
result in an audible alert and a high leak
message in the LCD.
Note: when Leak Alert is enabled,
SmartStart/Stop is automatically disabled.

If you select “Mir Full” as the mask option, SmartStart/Stop is automatically
disabled. SmartStart does not work with a Mirage Full Face Mask because
the anti-asphyxia valve.
When Leak Alert is set to ON, SmartStart/Stop is automatically set to OFF.
SmartStart/Stop cannot be used with Leak Alert because, if a high leak occurs,
SmartStop may stop treatment before the Leak Alert signal is activated.
