Positional devices

Post by dsws » Sun Jun 29, 2025 9:28 pm

My apologies if this is something I should have found easily, but the search terms I thought of didn't get me anything relevant.

When I was diagnosed, the test noted a substantially higher AHI while I was on my back than when I was on my side. So I'm curious about things intended to help people avoid sleeping on our backs. For myself, I'm certainly thinking of them as an adjunct to PAP, not a replacement, because my AHI was high enough on my side that it should be treated. For all I know the don't-sleep-on-your-back items might be adequate for some people, to the point that they wouldn't need PAP, but that's not me. Even if it turns out that some gadget keeps me from sleeping on my back, and does so perfectly, without any downsides at all, I would still need to pursue PAP.

First question, before we move on to the more substantive part: is there a better general term for these things than "positional devices"? That gets tons of irrelevant hits on the forum search feature, because both "position" and "device" are very common words here.

i use a fanny pack. i put an empty plastic water bottle in it. the kind of water bottle you get at seven eleven or such like. this is very light but will still give a slight bump to remind you. and a slight crinkling sound as well.

this works fairly well for me.

hope it helps you.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.
