I am currently trying to start CPAP therapy to treat my REM-specific sleep apnea, including hypopneas as well as respiratory-effort-related arousals (non-REM AHI 1.4, RDI 1.1, REM AHI 17.4, RDI 13.9). Sleep stages otherwise normal (REM latency 63 minutes on my in-lab study, REM ~23% of sleep).
Using a ResMed Airsense 11, with nasal pillows. Pressure 6-16. EPAP ramp only, ramp set to 20 minutes (not auto).
Previously tried a nasal cushion as well, but was having issues with the cushion getting compressed because I am a side and an active sleeper. Not sure a cutout pillow would help here given how much I move around.
Anyway, I found myself waking up roughly every hour the most recent night I tried CPAP, before I eventually gave up and took my mask off so I could at least get some kind of sleep a few hours into the night. But there is nothing obvious on the OSCAR data? For example flow limits do not look bad, and AHI is supposedly 0. Night truly starts around 21:15 - pretty sure I was awake before then.
I fell asleep relatively ok, but it was staying asleep that was the problem for me.
I am thinking maybe I woke up every time I went into REM? It also looks like I must have had some kind of obstruction to trigger increased pressure, as I did have some instances of pressure increasing above the minimum. Wonder if I should try increasing minimum pressure to 7?
I know it's not a ton of information, but any ideas would be so helpful.
Waking up every hour - nothing obvious on OSCAR?

did you have trouble with multiple wake ups before CPAP?subtlegrace92 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 11:58 amOSCAR results: https://imgur.com/a/cpap-06-19-SaU1b66
do your wake ups coincide with your leaks?
oh and welcome to the zoo!

Re: Waking up every hour - nothing obvious on OSCAR?
Before CPAP I had occasional maintenance insomnia issues, but it was more like, waking up after 5 hours and then being up for the day unable to fall back asleep. Not every hour like with CPAP.
I think I might have woken up around 22:00, coinciding with the big leak at that time? But not the other wake-ups.
