Has anyone seen this flow pattern before ?

Post by dweston55 » Tue Jun 10, 2025 6:21 pm

Hi all

Has anybody seen these type of flow patterns before ?

I get these all the time (2 to 3 an hour very consistently). Everyone of them look almost exactly the same (same exact pattern every time without exception). The flow rates all spike 2x to 3x the normal rate. I have video of them and have captured them during sleep studies, but nobody can tell me what they are (I have talked to numerous consultants and doctors). These events are definitely waking me up. They don't appear to have the normal RERA or Hypopnea look to them (no decrease in flow rate prior to the event, so the event does not look like a recovery breath to me).

I have spent a year trying all variations of pressure (4 to 18), ramp rate, mode (fixed and bipap), masks, Vcom, and hoses. I have also tried added oxygen. None of the changes have impacted the number or magnitude of these events, or the shape of the patterns. The leak rates are always excellent.

I am starting to think I am missing something very important.

Has anybody seen this type of thing before ?

I have done my best to abide by the image guidance, but am more than happy to provide any additional data or images anybody would like.

Are you talking about that single little blip at 01:16:01?

Yes. The top chart is a zoomed in view of the bottom chart. I get a ton of these, but don't really know what they are. They don't look like RERAs to me or "experts" who have looked at my data.

I did find the following topic that talked about a very similar pattern. The individual helping out (robysue1) says this about the chart ....... "The following CA seems to be a post arousal event and the arousal doesn't seem to be respiratory related". You will see this if you scroll down.

Is it possible that these events I am seeing are not respiratory events, but something else ? I know they are waking me up because I can see them in video and in my sleep study results.

Thanks for helping out with this
