Oh my gosh . . ., looks like I whacked myself twice in the head in the same day! (reference this thread: viewtopic.php?p=163057&highlight=nhe+sl ... ace#163057

Hey, but thanks a bunch for the CAKE, Ric!

Thanks, -SWS, for planting the seed that maybe the slip on my part was merely a cunning device employed to celebrate my birthday for three consecutive days on a message board.

It was a great day, but I did overdid it! I finally joined the ranks of HDTV owners. Picked up a 'lil 32" LCD TV yesterday (just slightly more expensive than a Remstar-auto). Not much good to watch on TV, IMHO, but my wife likes to watch it some, and I get to play with the technology. (NHE is addicted to technology . . . )

Regards,
Bill

Well, 55 truly is a milestone, Bill. But even though stretching your birthday obviously wasn't your original intent, the notion itself sure makes for great fun in my opinion. As it turns out, there's an inside joke in my own family about stretching birthdays.

Many years ago my wife and I were both trying to rationalize a luxury purchase of some sort. I don't even remember just what that proposed indulgence was. But as we were attempting to rationalize the expenditure, I realized that my own birthday just so happened to be that week. So I mumbled under my breath, in an offhanded manner, "Well, it is my birthday week." For some reason that little comment made my wife burst out laughing, which in turn got me to laughing just as heartily.

As you might have guessed, that little offhanded comment stuck with us throughout the years. In fact we evolved it to make it even more useful, as silly nonsense goes. If we happen to be sitting in an expensive restaurant, for instance, we might spontaneously toast either of our birthdays by saying something like: "To the birthday month" or "To the birthday season". Of course, those expanded birthday observances don't really factor into how we decide to make luxury expenditures in general. But we have finally broadened the scope of our silly tradition with comments like "Hmmm... Well, it is a birthday year after all... Isn't it?."

Why not? Life's just too short to celebrate anyone's birthday but one day a year.

Happy birthday thrice, Bill!

And happy birthday to anyone else who cares to celebrate life today!
