I am meeting with my TMJ dentist next week who has a lot of experience with sleep apnea as well. I am going to discuss the MAD with him and see what he thinks. My insurance will only cover one or the other and I have been successful and compliant on CPAP, so I don't know. But there are side effects with CPAP such as dry mouth, nasal congestion, mask irritation, etc.

dry mouth, nasal congestion, mask irritation,
There are solutions for all of these. Maybe, start a new thread about your worst problem and work on getting it remedied first.

I used a mouthpiece prior to CPAP. It works by keeping the lower jaw thrust forward and slightly open. This unnatural position caused TMJ while not preventing apnea. Now much better on CPAP.
