Medicare question - new Airsense 11

Post by jsmit86 » Mon Mar 24, 2025 9:30 am

I am picking up a new Airsense 11 Autoset today.
My Medicare + My plan g suppliment are paying for the machine, but since it's a 13 month rental I am being charged today for the portion that is in 2026.
Is that normal? I would think that Medicare would be billed in 2026 for that portion of the rental.

The machine itself is under the 13 th month capped rental but the humidifier and the hose and mask don't come under the 13th month thing. Now I know that the AirSense 11 comes with a built in humidifier and you can't have one (the machine) without the other (the humidifier) but ResMed is the only brand doing that and Medicare has long paid for machine and humidifier separately....and it isn't going to change anything just because ResMed does something different.

I suspect that is what is happening with you but you might want to ask the supplier so you don't get any ugly surprises.

My understanding is that the machine only falls under the 13 th month capped rental but anything else you get is paid for in full when you pick it up today.

These DMEs bill each item out separately and only the machine itself falls under the 13 th month capped rental....despite the humidifier now being built in to the machine and not a separate device.

Thanks Pugsy.
The Customer Service rep has said it the for the portion of the rental that falls in 2026.

I am only getting a non-heated hose, but I actully alread have a climateline hose that I got in January, and I have a spare.
It would seem that the humidifier tub even though separate should be covered. I actually did get a tub in Jan for my old machine, so perhaps that is the issue.
It's not a huge deal, it just seems since I have met my deductables already that all 2025 should be covered. (I will have no issue with compliance reporting)

I will ask for further clarification when I pick up the machine.

When all else fails go straight to the horses mouth.....contact Medicare.

OK - I know what it is.
First - there are 2 types of Medicare DME providers
1. Preferred providers - They have to accept Medicare rates and not charge anything additional.
2. Authorized providers - They accept Medicare, but can possibly charge some additional amount. (May vary by service)

My provider charges $36 for modem/data setup to the DME and my Doctor. Not a big deal, but Medicare does not pay that.
The other $150, goes toward my 2026 deductable. I don't have any problem with that. I will meet that my first month anyway due to some shots I get every month. If I overpay towards my deductable, the DME, or the other provider will refund any over payment.

Actually once I was there to pick up the machine, the manager there was very nice and explained everything.
The machine was a new Airsense 11, and I checked the hours, and it was at 0, so I'm happy with that. (I have read some stories here of DMEs trying to give out used machines.)
