leaks and CA during 2nd part of the night

Post by Sr8888 » Wed Feb 12, 2025 7:01 am

hi there,

I slept like a log during the first half the night before I had to visit the toilet. Then I vaguely remember more tossing and turning from side to side and after 7am I wasn't really asleep but in some kind if 'cant be bothered to get' up so put eye mask on and drifted in and out I guess.

Anyway there is Large Leak In the second half the night, I presume from the mouth as didn't detect any leak from the pillows waking me up. I normally sleep as far as I know with my mouth closed as I don't like the choking sensation I get if I open it when the mask is on. So maybe air coming between the lips? If so is it worth getting a chin strap to help or would I cause other 'issues' if I forcibly keep the mouth closed?

And the 4x CA's within 4 minutes around 7.15am. Is this normal if I'm in a drifting in and out sleep mode as I said or some kind of false reading from the CPAP?

Here's my report from last night:

If any of the knowledgeable people would be able to help out with the report of my settings it would be great.

Which positions do you sleep in? Did you maybe sleep on your sides, and then turn to your back around 4:00 a.m. or so?

They are most likely transition apneas as you fall in and out of sleep. They are not something to be concerned about. Put your cursor on each of them. They are of short duration.

Your leaks aren't so bad if they are not waking you. The machines can compensate for leaks up to 25 to 35 lpm. You might want to find your mask model on YouTube and watch some videos on fitting and adjusting.

Consciously on my sides, equally left and right. Its possible I did sleep on my back as I used to a lot before getting CPAP but my sleep test showed it was causing many times more AHI than side sleeping so I try to practise that now a days.

I think they maybe coming from the mouth as they don't wake me up. Occasionally (1, 2x a night) I get a leak from the pillows if I knock it but the air flow into my eyes wakes me up to fix it.

Would you change any of the settings to accommodate these leeks as I would prefer to leave them be than have to tape or strap myself up.

Do you ever wake up with dry mouth? Five minutes or less of leaks through the mouth usually causes very dry mouth.

No not really. Not like I used to before using cpap and snoring all night.
