humidity at zero and temp at 86, of course
When was the last time you didn't use any water?
honestly I don't know. but i'll be happy to track it.

what's your line of reasoning here?
You've set your Humidity to 0, but still had water in the tank. Rain-out was reduced but still a potential problem.

Take the next step, no humidity. Washington is one of the more humid states. you may not need any humidity, and will therefore be contributing less moisture for potential rain-out.

A lot of people in much dryer places don't use water. Worth a shot. Remember is you do to turn humidity off.
?? that last sentence seems to be fat fingered. or i'm fat brained. pls to try again, good sir.

oh, all right, then.

so what you wrote must have assembled itself in my sleeping brain. I went to bed last night with the hose as completely covered as I could. Instead of turning up the bedroom heat, I elected to put more blankets on the bed. I figured this would help keep the hose warmer thus deflecting that pesky water build up.

WRONG! woke up at 3:30 am to discover moisture in the hose and mask. drat! as long as I was up, made a journey down the hall for the usual reasons. somewhere between going and coming, I decided to keep the temp at it's 86 degrees then turn off the humidity and switch out the reservoir to an empty spare one.

woke at 7:10 am WITH NO RAINOUT! I would've sung a victory song except my mouth was so friggin' dry I wouldn't have been able to make much more than a croak. so thank you for the suggestion. I will now try calibrating the humidity setting, starting with 1 tonight.

fingers crossed i'm on the path of that delicate balance between too much and not enough water!

ETA: well I can't have the humidity at 1 with no water in the tank. <shakes head> so I suppose I will have to add more saliva producing product in the middle of the night. I already use xlimelts at the start of the evening. I'll just pop more in later.

wonder what would happen with a little water in the tank but humidity either 0 or 1???? in terms of what it does to your oral tissues drying out?

Not full but enough that a setting of 1 won't use up all the water and start stinking.....and that will depend a lot on your ambient humidity....maybe 1/4 to 1/3 ish...

Setting of 0 or humidity off won't need much water for pass over humidity.

last night-

starting temp in bedroom was 68. extra blankets on the bed. the new heated hose, unwrapped. short hose, wrapped with what I bought at padacheek. also has a "barrel cozy" also from padacheek. CPAP temp 86. humidity off. bulk of hose under blankets.

woke up slightly at one point as I was sweating. threw back the cover, back to sleep. woke up at 4 or so and decided on a bathroom trip. slight condensation in short hose. none in heated hose. back to sleep.

throughout the night, slight dry mouth.

woke up to just slightly more condensation but not too troublesome. temp in the bedroom had fallen to 64 at 8 am. the 68 degree temperature was at 11 pm.

that padacheek short hose wrap isn't quite long enough to reach from the pillows base down to where it connects with heated hose. I've put an old sock on the remaining bit to insure the short hose is now entirely covered.

will try that tonight with no other changes and will report back tomorrow.

patched it up with more cloth wrapping but result is virtually the same. and while this isn't the best solution, I think it's as near as damn it.

the water droplets in the short hose are mostly ornamental at this point. nothing has been coming through to go into my nose and that's certainly an improvement. I trust at some point waking up then going to the bathroom then adding some moisturizing gel will become a habit. i think I mentioned I use xlimelts at bedtime but they don't seem to get me all the way through.

so thanks much to you all for your input. maybe someday, like three years from now, a drive by poster will start with "I used to have this same problem but then I<insert weird solution here>" and I'll try whatever they suggest.
