Ortho Home Defense pesticide

Post by nawchem » Thu Jul 04, 2024 12:01 pm

I was sound asleep when roommate sprayed an entire bottle of this stuff over a small nearby area. I awoke feeling sedated and realized I was breathing slowly. I left the area for an hour and recovered and ran my cpap machine for a while to get the chemicals out. This was Sat. night and I had assumed he was doing drugs. It was Monday when he apologized for the strong smells and told me what had happened. My dr sent me to rapid care and has been trying to contact the housing manager, but they won't take her calls for some reason.

Everytime I use my cpap machine my nose burns and I have sinus pain. I've washed the hose repeatedly, used nasal saline rinses and flonase. When I blasted the tubing with the water hose then distilled water things were good. So one good night now the symptoms keep returning, 2 nights since this happened I have slept at a neighborhood park using a generator.

That pesticide has a lot oil in it and i'm wondering if it could be retained in the machine?

I side sleep with my right side on the pillow. After the exposure the right side of the nose piece had a yellowish/brown residue in it.

Doctor is unsure if insurance will replace the tubing since i've only had it (and the machine) a month.

YIKES!

I think your roommate should buy you a new machine, hose, filters, and mask. Maybe he/she needs to contact their renters insurance carrier if there is one.

CPAP.com has your machine on sale for $1004 today and it comes with tubing, and your mask is on sale for $105. There's a coupon for 25% off if he/she signs up for the newsletter.

Or you could sue your roommate in small claims court. An apology is not enough here. And I don't think it's only the tubing. It's in the machine casing, remember there is foam to dampen the sound, it may have been absorbed by that.

It's a bad idea to keep using that machine.

No saving it. Thanks for explaining about the foam.
