Bad time for chocolate

Post by carlitguy » Wed Apr 04, 2007 9:39 pm

In the past I have had the odd bad night. I felt like a truck had run over me and you know how frustrating that can feel.
I recently had two bad days in row and I tried to figure a common denominator. I did. The first day I had a cup (large) of hot chocolate at about 8:30 in the morning and the next day a large piece of chocolate cake just before noon.
It must stay in my body because I am now off chocolate and all seems extremely great!
A couple of days ago a chap I work with said he was having trouble sleeping after returning about a week or 10 days ago from Europe. He does have OSA but is not on CPAP. When he returned from Switzerland he had a huge chocolate bar. He has been eating it and now is off it and his sleep pattern is returning to normal.
Well I guess it means no chocolate this Easter for me!

Chocolate has quite a bit caffeine in it. Caffeine is an isidious drug that has a powerful effect on your sleep patterns, especially when taken after mid-day. I plan to kick the caffeine habit someday...someday soon....Maybe only in the very late-mid-morning....I think, but never at night...No.....yeah, right.

I've noticed many kinds of food affect my sleep and it doesn't surprise me at all. But it's very interesting.

Chocolate is also a potent catalyst for GERD. (For that reason, I almost never consume chocolate any more. )

I notice the acid heartburn after eating chocolate for many hours. Although I've never noticed an increase in OSA after eating chocolate, it wouldn't surprise me at all if that were generally true.

Regards,
Bill

Chocolate is loaded with caffeine. Chocolate is fattening. Chocolate makes GERD miserable.
I can give up Chocolate..

I have a few friends who have had heart arrhythmias. They could not even tolerate a small chocolate chip cookie without being thrown into a period of increased arrhythmias.

Anything with caffeine could trigger the irregular and skipped beats, but it seems that so little is required. Thankfully, that doesn't happen to me...or, maybe that WOULD keep me away from the chocolate eggs this Easter? (I never seem to be able to eat JUST one!)

Then again, that last bit really is not wise. Please, let us go back to the point where I am thankful not to have arrhythmias! Who ever decided that chocolate eggs were an Easter staple, anyway?

Sleep well, and Happy Easter!

Karen

Better to celebrate with chocolate easter eggs than a Chocolate Sculpture of Jesus . So glad the art gallery decided to close the exhibit.

Actually, per ounce, chocolate has LESS caffeine than coffee.

Google chocolate caffeine! Chocolate has other stimulants and one is related to amphetamines.

This is just one site of many. http://www.reikinurse.com/chocolate.html

Give me a good dark chocolate any day of the week and I am a happy camper. Don't care how much caffine it has.

Wholy Raw Cacao is supposed to be the truly healthy DARK chocolate. Expensive, too.

My wife always gets me a chocolate bunny for easter and has done this for years. She also buys me the marshmallow peeps that I also enjoy. Before you go off on me for that, remember, we are all still kids really.

I'm a chocoholic big time. I will get chocolate ice cream, put on it crushed oreos, chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles on top of all of that. Oh man is that good, it's almost orgasmic it's so good. I've not had any discomfort from any of that, so long as I have my mask attached and the machine blowing life back into me.

Amazing, when on cruise ships, they put those little chocolate packs under your pillow, and I always slept like a log.
