Prior to going on CPAP my AHI was in the mid-80's and somehow I managed to get SOME sleep (not saying it had any quality). But now, if I accidentally fall asleep without my CPAP (very rare) I'm almost immediately woken up with an apnea. My body won't let me "sleep" through that any more. I would find a night like that torture, too.
Truly, if you have a copy of your first sleep study to show to any physician to justify a prescription, there is no need whatsoever for a new sleep study UNLESS you are having issues and the test can help sort out what's going on.
And you pinpointed one of the issues all-too frequent in sleep medicine, that ultimately it's a business and some doctors have their fingers in the pot.

Re: Failed sleep study after 14 years on the hose
I consider "failed" to be a misnomer and a cause of confusion. Before I had my first study, there was something bad wrong with me. A "failed" study would have been one that somehow didn't identify all the long apneas that I was experiencing. Fortunately, that study was a success. It gave me a diagnosis of severe obstructive sleep apnea.

It's the exact term the lead tech used... I begged for them to discontinue and go into titration... no go. They got their pieces of silver.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 2:33 pmI consider "failed" to be a misnomer and a cause of confusion. I wouldn't repeat that term.
