CPAP Masks and Vertigo

Post by Russet » Tue Jan 16, 2024 12:20 am

I have been using CPAP for several years now. Recently I have developed vertigo (not serious just stumbling and falling) and have been trying to find out why.

I have been wondering if it could be caused by my CPAP mask. The part of our brain that controls balance is in the cerebellum which is low down at the back of our heads. When I wear a CPAP mask (F&P) the lower straps and webbing at the rear of the mask put pressure on this part of my head. Could this be causing my vertigo?

I note that in the mornings I have a depression across the top of my head where the top strap has been. I am using very little pressure on the mask straps but it seems that only a small amount of pressure is needed to cause the depression in my skull. Bearing this in mind pressure on my cerebellum seems like a possible cause.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

CPAP has been blamed for over 300 maladies, so why not vertigo?

Are you taking any prescription or OTC drugs?

Do you keep a check on your AHI and leak level?

What are your pressure settings?

Talk to your doctor about your vertigo. Stumbling and falling are serious. Vertigo can have many, many possible causes, and your doctor will need to figure out what's going on.

Vertigo should be pointed out as a major embarrassment to medical science.
Since it is an invisible malady, it has been largely ignored.
Researchers concentrate on low-hanging fruit, leaving those with vertigo to suffer.
And suffer they do, to this day.
