Folks:
ITEM 1: I'd sure be interested to hear what cpap users' experiences with weight gain are. Almost everything I can find on the Internet indicates that weight gain (0.8kg up to 11kg) is associated with cpap use. It seems to be associated with elevated IGF levels.
ITEM 2: I read books before I fall asleep (this is a lifelong habit; I'm in my mid-70s). How do other folks manage to place reading glasses on their cpap masks?
Thank you.

Easy. We use masks that fit underneath the nose. Tell us which model mask you use now, and we can make suitable replacement recommendations. (Kudos to your good reading habit.)
Yes, there are reports of that. But, it seems to be a small minority of new users.msvic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 3:31 pmITEM 1: I'd sure be interested to hear what cpap users' experiences with weight gain are. Maybe you now have more energy and can become more active? And eat a better diet?

I didn't gain any weight when I started cpap....in fact I lost some weight.
I don't ever read in bed but if I did there are several masks available that wouldn't interfere with eye glasses.
Just about anything that fits under the nose, and not on the nasal bridge area, will work.
The Eclipse that I use now wouldn't be in the way of eyeglasses at all.
See link in my signature line to see what it looks like.

Now, at first I did gain a little weight because CPAP really helped my reflux, and allowed me to eat more without discomfort. But once I got a handle on a new way of eating, I lost a LOT of weight--75 lbs while on CPAP. I was changing my way of eating, but it was SO much easier on CPAP. The theory is that all the stress hormones you secrete during the struggle to breathe with apnea (hello cortisol, ghrelin, etc.) cause weight gain and increased appetite. Plus, when you don't get quality sleep, it affects your blood sugar negatively, too.

for glasses: I use rimless, (progressive), the most minimal temples available---which are lightweight and will sit on the top of my nose without touching the cushion on my F20--- which sits below the glass's silicone nose pieces

I'm a lifetime reader and read before bed as well. I wear the N-20 nasal mask. Mostly I just sit my glasses on top of the nose piece and tuck the side pieces of the glasses under the headgear to hold my glasses on. I've also gotten really good at putting the mask on and off in the dark so often times I will read till I'm almost asleep then tuck my glasses in my nightstand and put the mask and headgear on.
Oh and I am one of the ones who lost weight when starting apap. I had so much more energy the weight melted off over 65 lbs. Sadly between the 2020 gym closures and the passing of my husband of 36 + years earlier this year the energy boost has gone away and I've put weight back on.
