When I wanted to try a different form of PAP, I simply called my primary doc's office to ask them for a generic CPAP Rx that I could use to get supplies from CPAP.com. Got it same day.
My primary says I have to go to a sleep doc. I say screw that. They can kiss my behind. I'm not paying $80 to see a specialist for 2 seconds so they can write me a script with an expiration date. I'll do amazon, ebay or marketplace. I will not be held hostage to the medical dictators. When they ask me at my next appointment, if I'm still using my pap I'll tell them no, because they refused to write me a prescription. They have no way to know differently. I'm really all done with playing nice.
I feel your frustrations. I am in the process of doctor shopping ...again. I got a new PCP last year in August. Never did really like her and then she really pissed me off last month so now I have an appt for a new PCP. Remains to be seen how much or if I like him.

You know if you shop smart you can just buy out of pocket and save yourself a bit of money (maybe) and a big headache (for sure)....will likely help you keep your blood pressure down as well.

A word about eBay...watch closely and frequently then if you see something you want snatch it up immediately.
Those "kits" offered as replacement parts so no RX but they are full complete mask kits...those will get pulled if someone reports it and sometimes even the replacement parts only offers get pulled.
So don't dally if you want something. Been there and done that which is why I warned you.

The frame itself will last forever with common sense care....the headgear and/or cushions will get tired after a bit so you will want spares.
Shop smart and buy in bulk if offered at a good price. A long time ago when I was using the Swift FX (nasal pillow) I wanted to stock up and I stumbled on someone selling 6 of the replacement pillows for 30 bucks total for all and that included postage.
That's a no brainer. So sometimes there some killer deals.
I have plenty of cushions its the short hoses & headgear that keep wearing out. Thanks for the suggestions. I was trying to use cpap.com to avoid the insurance but I'll have to use someplace that doesn't require the prescription. I can get a two pk of the short hoses from amazon but they don't have headgear.
I'll figure it out and eventually I'll probably doctor shop. The problem is I don't like any of them. Lol. I have a doctor bias right from the start.

That may be true for insurance to pay. But if doc knows you will be paying out of pocket to buy online, doc may cooperate with that approach.
I told her I was just looking to buy online and not use insurance. She didn't care. Its ok. I will eventually doctor shop. I'm sick of that place anyway. I'm going to wait till I run low on my other meds. Never do today what you can put off till tomorrow. Or something like that.

You do understand that when you buy replacement parts from cpap.com that they don't require a RX for the replacement parts.
Only the full complete mask package requires the RX.

I just checked though....cpap.com doesn't seem to have just the short hose for the N20.
Odd because it is available on Amazon for about 35 bucks.

Now I don't know anything about this company/product because it is an after market product but on Amazon
you can get a package of 2 of the short hose assembly for about $23. Note they say it is a little bit longer than the original from ResMed.
Prices may vary a little bit because I am a Prime member and all I see are Prime prices.

Disclaimer...I know nothing about this aftermarket product but it might be worth looking at.

Yes looked at those after market ones not sure I trust aftermarket but for that price it might be worth a try.

Will sit down this weekend and get something ordered. I've got one full back up mask (N-20) here and now one at my daughter's in Vegas but would prefer to have at least one more. (Puppy still occasionally finding trouble) I do have an Amara view or a Dreamwear, I can fall back on. The Amara View works well but makes my face a little chaffed after a couple of days.

Check on the return policy of that aftermarket item....I know returning things is a PITA but if they are totally rejected might be worth it to send back or just keep for emergency.

I totally forgot about the puppy. I have been so lucky that none of my dogs or cats gives a hoot about my cpap stuff at all. The worst that has happened was fat cat Ruthie likes to sit on top of the machine and her fat ass often mashes the on/off button and I immediately wake up with no air and fat cat just eyeballing me for something. Usually she just wants out. When hubby is home he is an early riser and he lets her out but I don't like to get up that early myself unless I have no choice and just can't get back to sleep.

As for after market items...it's a crap shoot. I have had some that I couldn't tell from OEM and others that were horrible but never cost very much so I usually just toss the really crappy stuff. Now with the Eclipse....no need for much extra stuff. The biggest complaint I have heard about after market items was on the head gear...the stretchy part...and it didn't seem to last very long. I haven't heard anything about the short hose after market.

Good luck with the doctor shopping. I fully understand your bias. It is very similar to mine. Unfortunately a very necessary evil we have to deal with.

  The cats are my daughter and son in laws problem at night. I can see them doing that.  The puppy, however is my problem and I aggravated it because after Dave passed I decided to let the pup up on the bed. My BAD! I should have never allowed him on the furniture. *sigh*. On the other hand 40+ lbs of cuteness overload does help at times.

A coworker gave me the name of her doctor today. If she takes my insurance I might give her a try. Its a bit of a drive but worth it if she is as good as my coworker says. :)

Yep. My fur babies bring a smile to my face (most of the time anyway) and I actually sleep better with them in bed with me than without. It's comforting and I am all about comfort. Without comfort I just don't sleep so great.
Hubby is an OTR truck driver so gone a lot. It's when he is gone I share that big old bed with whomever wants to be with me.
When he is home only Lucy (pug dog) comes to bed with us and the cats pretty much stay away.
Now when he is gone the cats have free rein. Ruthie the fat ass cat never pays much attention to me except when we go to bed and that's when she just has to snuggle.

The good far outweighs the bad IMHO.

I'll take any help I can get sleeping at this point. I should probably get rid of this king size bed and get something smaller.... maybe someday. Major is the only one of my fur babies I can get to come up on the bed. Both of my old girls just look at me like I'm crazy when I try to get them up here. I have to snuggle with them on the floor. Which is fine until its time to get back up again.

Major knows he has me wrapped around his paw. I might threaten to kick him off the furniture but he confident in using his puppy license with all of us. Even my old girls let him get away with stuff tho wiggle on occasion has taught him some manners. It's funny watching her old fat behind chase him down the hall. I need to video it.
