Hey Sharon,

You're really sounding much better I'm glad you're doing well. When is your appointment to have those stents removed?

I don't remember any mention of dissolvable packing but I'll check my info package later when I get home. Mind you, I don't remember them mentioning stents either. I've learned most info about the septoplasty right here.

The hydrasense I know is stuff where you bend forward towards the sink and turn your head sideways. Then you pump this stuff into the nostril that's facing up and the saline runs out the nostril facing down. Is this what you mean or is there another hydrasense? I've just found what I know on the net:
http://www.canadadrugs.com/otc/product/ ... Mist/2942/

I've also found "simply saline" on the net. Is this it?
http://www.simplysaline.com/

I know about salinex. The ent had told me to use it because of my nasal dryness and nosebleeds but I wasn't impressed with it either. I use polysporin but I know that mention has caused quite a lot of discussion on cpaptalk so let's pretend I didn't say that

I'm sure it'll all be ok but I'm both a wuss and a worrier

France

i think you're neither a wuss nor a worrier...i think you're a brave woman who is about to do something she knows will be uncomfortable and potentially painful, with a serious condition that can complicate the simplest surgery, who has taken the time to sympathize and empathize with someone else...and i think you are someone who wants to hope for the best and prepare for the worst, and i see nothing wrong with that...knowledge is power

i, for one, have appreciated all your input and kind words....so be nice to this nice lady who has been so nice to me!

p.s. my stents come out monday, april 16th at 8:45 a.m., and not a moment too soon, thanks for asking

Sharon,

Oh garsh You're so sweet I've found this group and people like you to be so helpful and informative.

I'll be thinking of you April 16th at 8:45 am. You'll have to post when you get home so we can hear how you're feeling. I think it was JeffH who mentioned his first breath after the stents removal as "brain freeze" with so much air coming in. Sounds neat but I can just imagine it.

Hey Sharon1965,

I looked at the info package the doctor's office gave me and it makes no mention of dissolvable packing, nor does it mention stents. It just says that I'll be seeing the doctor 1 week after the surgery then again 1 month after the surgery. The doctor had verbally told me that I'd be off work for 1 week so I'm assuming that I'll have stents and that they'll be removed 1 week after the surgery.

I'm definitely glad this group exists and that there are people like you, JeffH and others who have had this before me and kept me informed

How's it going today? 3-1/2 more days for your stent-removal!

france

i wish i knew what the deal is here...of course, since she's a specialist, there's no chance of talking to her before monday; when she met with my husband after the surgery, she said everything went great, i'd be in some pain for a few days, dissolvable packing, blah blah blah...the nurse explained the packing to me in my room, also, and then again before discharging ...WTF?...again, i guess it makes no difference now, since i'm getting close to STENT REMOVAL DAY...like i said before, i wonder if it depends on how much bone had to be shaved, how much bleeding occurred and the fact that i had the electric cautery done...

as for today, thanks for asking, but, the bummer is that today i'm having some pain again...go figure...it started last night around 9:00 and i just felt this terrible pressure on my sinuses, sinus headache, etc...but only on the one side, then all the teeth on that side started to ache and by 10:00 i had to take a percoset and go to bed, moaning the whole time... i feel like a big baby...the pain is still there, though not as intense, and the pressure on my sinuses and my teeth is still there...it hurts to move my nose, or sniff, or smile...i'm wondering if the stent in that nostril is pushing on something (for example the cauterized vessel , which would suck) or maybe my nostrils are just fed up with this invasion... anyway, according to the instructions i got from the discharge nurse, none of this warrants a trip to the e.r. or the ent...so i'll just persevere...also, the weather here is terrible, cold and rainy, stormy in fact, and i wonder if that's part of the sinus pressure i'm feeling...i'm like a human barometer

so, france, more than you needed to hear, i'm sure, but i appreciate getting to vent and whine

take care

sharon

p.s. i confess that i took a tylenol sinus pill last night, and an hour later all this fun began..i wonder if i dried everything out too much? well, staying away from those, now, anyway

This surgery must be done a lot differently in Canada. My son had a septoplasty/turbinectomy in the US last week. It was same day surgery (cheaper for the insurance company). The packing came out the next day and that was it - no stents, no hospitalization, etc. Pain was minimal.

Sharon, I'm sorry your surgery was so much more difficult.

sorry for me, yes, but good for your son! mine would normally have been day surgery, but because of osa they keep you overnight...the other stuff? i have no freakin' idea! i guess i'll ask her on monday why my experience has been so different from everyone else in the general population and possibly the entire universe! lol

as far as the minimal pain goes, i'm here to tell you that the only pain i'm having now is because of the damn stents! plus i'm bored silly, but i guess that doesn't qualify as pain

Our weather here sucks too today so I fully understand feeling miserable.

I'll read my info sheet again to see what it said about possible problems. I remember it saying to call his office if there was bleeding that wouldn't stop and I vaguely remember seeing pain that couldn't be handled by tylenol 3's but I'll check it and get back to you. You know, it occurred to me to bring the darned thing to work today but I forgot. I've just left myself a message at home to remind myself to check.

I'm sure that your packing was due to the large amount of bleeding you did. You mentioned having swallowed so much and you were so sick -- it must be because there was so much that they had to pack it to stop it.

Hope you feel better soon. Don't worry about venting -- that's what we're here for You'll get to read about my venting when my turn comes in a few weeks.

Take care
France

greyhound,

Here in Canada, if you've got sleep apnea, you stay overnight when you have anesthesia in order to be monitored. Anesthesia can aggravate your sleep apnea and make your brain less likely to realize that you've stopped breathing.

How's your son doing? How old is he? Does he have apnea too?

France

Sharon1965,

How are you feeling, especially how is your pain?

I'm at home with my info sheet in front of me. It says:

Complications:
Call the office at ..... if pain is not relieved by Tylenol no 3, if there is persistent bleeding from the nose, or if your nose becomes completely obstructed.

So, if you're still in pain, I think you should do something about it, especially before the weekend. I know you're seeing the ENT on Monday but doesn't he/she have an office with a receptionist? You could describe what's happening to the receptionist, who must be used to this and who would know what to do. It can't hurt to try, especially if you're still in pain. I don't know what Windsor's er wait times are like but here in Ottawa, a 12-hour wait time is normal so I wouldn't want to have to go to the er during the weekend. Just my opinion, of course

Take care,
France

france

i'm doing ok...tyenol does seem to keep the pain at a minimum, and there is no bleeding at all, and as far as obstruction goes, i can breathe somewhat through my nostrils, more than if i had a bad cold...so, i guess i'm still managing...i'm really wondering if the stormy weather is the cause of my sinus headache....i definitely don't feel like i have an infection, there's no fever, no colouration of the drainage, my breath isn't bad (i hope)plus she has had me on antibiotics the whole time so...

thanks for your kind concern...i'll be ok

sharon
3 days and approx. 12 hours to go...whoo hoo!
