Biting tongue using full face mask and a mouth guard

Post by Lizzybrazil » Sun Sep 10, 2023 10:39 pm

I am at the end of my tether. I don't sleep well even using my cpap machine but have started biting my tongue several times a week. I have started using mouth guard and this is still happening it wakes me up and the pain lasts 45 minutes. I don't sleep well normally so this is so debilitating!! I started using a mouth guard but this is not stopping it. I have a new polish dentist who does not know what a cpap machine is! I only have mild sleep apnea

Are you practicing holding the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth? This is a recommended practice to build a healthy habit. Do it as you fall asleep, anytime you wake up during the night, and even during the day while awake.

Are you regularly checking your AHI and mask leak level?

I don't know what to tell you about the tongue biting but it's time to find another dentist.

In some countries, you can find dentists who specialize in sleep solutions.

Generally, when you bite you tongue, or cheek, it swell. And then, because it's swollen, you're more liable to bite it again :(

Did the polish dentist talk you into the mouth guard?
It is probably a rotten fit.
Ditch it! And the bad dentist.
The biting likely started with a swelling in the mouth, followed by a vicious circle.
Get off the merry go round.
You may need to evaluate how your headgear fits.
They do lose their stretch--they are designed that way.
Then we cinch them up too tight, pushing the mouth together, where we bite.

What's a polish dentist? For me, a dental hygienist does the polishing, and then the dentist comes in for a look.

Good catch, granny!
If the OP means the dental hygenist (who cleans and polishes) NOT A DENTIST.
If the OP means a dentist from Poland--there may be a language barrier.
Either way, get some REAL help.
