Intro, Masks and Leaks..Mr Grumpy Face

Post by Craig H » Tue Aug 29, 2023 3:12 pm

Hi...New User and first post here...and a question

Craig , 70 y.o from New Zealand

Have been on CPAP trial under direction of Respiratory Specialist and a Sleep Therapist for 6 weeks now.

Started with a tested AHI of 61 and that immediately dropped to below 20 and below 12 and currently last 2 nights 6.5 and 5.6. Very pleased.

Must report that my feeling of well being and vitality has been fantastic from the first night onwards, despite the trials and tribulations of learning to live with the gear.
I have driven 2 x five + hour trips with no drivers fatigue and I work on the builders tools and in the back yard without the afternoon drop off tiredness at all. I am physically active and busy always.

Comfort level is now really good and that corresponds to my improving event results I think. II think. have learnt to control the mask . eg facial control and positioning
02 Levels have greatly improved ( by test).

I have a great contoured pillow, go to bed when I am tired and get 8+ hours sleep every night.

The machine always reports RED Grumpy Face regarding leaks despite the comfort levels and the results..
It did not do so when I used the Resmed F20 mask although it leaked and caused a lot of issues for me.
I am now using the F&P Vitera Mask which suits my face structure and is far more comfortable.
It does not cause the horror effect of puffy cheeks or sheet blowing leaks!

QUESTION: I am wondering if the Vitera Mask is not as calibrated to the Resmed 10 machine as the Resmed F20 mask would be. ie different venting across masks...causing different pressure monitoring?

Should I ignore the Grumpy Face and just be happy with lower events and my sense of well being?

Thanks for any ones thoughts in advance.

Craig

All CPAP masks are compatible with all CPAP machines. The exception is a few travel machines.

Energy, no excess sleepiness during the day, and a sense of well-being are the ultimate goals. You might be able to fine-tune some things and prevent some problems down the road with a little optimization. The best way to do this is with OSCAR or, for the less technically inclined, a free account at SleepHQ. There is an OSCAR tutorial thread of the top of this index page.
