Laryngitis

Post by sjcorky » Sun Aug 06, 2023 11:09 am

I have the Resmed 11 and nasal mask. My events are 0-0.3. I would wake up if my mouth opened so don’t do that anymore. Humidity set at level 2 because sometimes the water in the tubing starts to gurgle and wakes me up if it’s higher. My sinuses are farely clear. Have had laryngitis for 5 weeks now. Cultures come back as normal. Antibiotics and steroids didn’t help. My pulmonologist says to just continue my allergy medications but nothing is helping. I lavage my sinuses and gargle multiple times a day. Nothing helps. Any ideas?

Welcome! It's possible you're having mouth leaks without knowing it. Are you using any kind of software to view your patient data for the night?

Also, has your pulmonologist considered whether you might have GERD (reflux)? I assume your pulmonologist knows you're using CPAP -- is that correct?

I wonder whether your pulmonologist might want to refer you to a ENT specialist. The laryngitis has gone on a long time, and I think you need more medical attention to figure out what's going on.

Has anyone taken a swab to check for bacteria etc?

The OP says cultures came back normal, so I’m guessing bacterial infection is ruled out.

I agree.
Your symptoms indicate air might be leaking out of your lips without waking you up.

Please read viewtopic/t172378/Sticky--Newbies-PLEAS ... STING.html and follow the instructions.
Our idea will be much more helpful when we:
  • Know what your equipment is
  • See the OSCAR reports
Do you realize heated hoses let us have more humidity without the water condensing and gurgling (that's called "rainout" hereabouts).
