Help with F&P Nasal Pillow Mask

Post by Butterflymaid » Thu Jun 15, 2023 4:45 pm

Hi everyone! I'm a newbie here and am currently using an F and P nasal pillow mask (it was the one given to me when I had my second sleep test at our sleep test center). I can't wear a full mask because I am what's called 'claustrophobic' (at least that's what my husband says it's called with CPAP users!!) and I do breathe through my nose not through my mouth.

It's been about 2 weeks now and I am having issues with the headgear hurting over the tops of my ears. Is that normal? Will it eventually go away once my ears are "hardened" to the headgear? Maybe I've got it tightened too much? Was going to look into perhaps getting some headgear CPAP strap covers to help, anyone know if those actually work? Anyone know if headgear is interchangeable?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide this newbie!!

welcome to the zoo!

it's possible that you've overtightened your straps. i recommend you go to you tube to find some mask fitting videos. be sure to use the name of your mask in your search terms. try watching more than one to get the overall idea.

good luck!

you might want to try fitting your mask while laying down.

Fisher and Paykel makes at least four models of nasal pillow masks. https://www.cpap.com/plp/fisher-paykel- ... jYmbT0xNTQ

None of them should have head straps on the ears.

Thanks ChicagoGranny! The straps just move around the top of my ears when I'm sleeping causing the tops of my ears to get irritated. I have since adjusted the headgear straps and that seems to have worked!
