Waking up multiple times during night; use P30i nasal pillows

Hello,

I started using a CPAP machine about a year ago. I started with Airfit P30i nasal pillows, using this mask mostly for the entire year. I had to wear a chin strap in the beginning to train my mouth to stay closed. I had to stop wearing the chin strap because I was waking up with a full mouth of sore teeth. Fortunately my mouth doesn't stay open anymore, so I don't need a chin strap.

Periodically throughout the year I have had leakage problems and issues waking up during the night. I've tried an Airfit P10 and F30i. I am an active side sleeper so I prefer having the tube attached on top. The full mask is okay but doesn't stay on as well.

The last couple of months, I was sleeping well. Now I wake up about 3-4 times a night, so I am not getting good sleep and am quite tired. I think I am waking up because of the noise from the mask from the leaks. I also always wake up on my back, so I am wondering if I'm having breathing issues which wake me up. Then once up I hear the noise from the mask. I am not sure what precisely is causing me to wake up. I just know that it is happening too often and I am frustrated because I'm so tired.

I've looked at other nasal pillows online but they don't seem that they would have a good seal. I'm curious what nasal pillow others use. I'll call the sleep coaches tomorrow, but I'm open to hearing other's feedback and suggestions.

Find the mask you prefer on youtube and carefully watch three or four videos on fitting and adjusting.

You infer the leaks are worse on your back. Are you using OSCAR (or SleepHq.com for the less technically inclined.) to see exactly what is happening? Links in my signature.

Sorry to hear, i am waiting on my cpap machine and not yet sure of the masks, but i was hopful for P10 by Resmed

Where do you find sleep coaches ?

Thank you all for your posts. Even though I am fairly new to using a CPAP, I have found that the type of mask I prefer are the ones with the tubing on top and nasal pillows. I spoke with a sleep coach who is sending me a DreamWear nasal mask. Hopefully this will work. I am not using OSCAR to analyze my data. I didn't know about this option. I upload the data to ResAssist which is the name of the CPAP machine. Can anyone use OSCAR? If so, I'll definitely try it. As far a where to find sleep coaches, they are available through the company that my health provider works with who set me up with the machine and provides supplies. The coaches have been invaluable in helping me. I'm guessing not everyone has this option??

It sounds like you have a ResVent brand machine. ResVent machines are not supported by OSCAR.

It can help to have the hose totally out of the way for your masks that don’t have the tube on top.

I don't believe the sleep coaches are licensed. They are basically customer service who help me with my mask type and fitting. They have knowledge about different masks and offer suggestions if a particular mask isn't working. They also help troubleshoot if there is a problem with my machine. If they can't answer my question, they transfer me to a respiratory therapist. Nobody at this company assists with medical advice; my doctor does this.

Customer service=sales, and retention.
