niacin

Goofy UT, congratulations! I hope your inspiration fortifies me in diet and exercise.

About niacin, according to the Balch book Prescription for Nutritional Healing, no-flush niacin is not effective in reducing cholesterol. It needs to be the flush-type. I find that if I take it at the end of a meal, there is no flush. It may take a couple of times to get there.

Congratulations. I've heard it said that sometimes it takes 'dying' to start living.

And thank you for being an inspiration. To the fellow hoseheads and to us white coat weain' folks. It's people like you that make me proud to be an RT.

Thanks for this info on niacin, for all the other AMAZING contributions that you've made to our community, MHS!!!

My challenge is to INCREASE my HDL, not lower my LDL or total cholesterol. Do you know whether there is any advantage in flush or non-flush niacin for this indication?? I'm really not looking forward to walking around looking and feeling flushed all the time.

Thanks!

Chuck
