O2 monitor not o2 ring!

Post by Sleeping rough » Mon May 22, 2023 10:34 am

Lanky, there is a newer and much improved o2 ring. It is written up as being accurate enough to diagnose sleep apnea without a sleep study! Apparently Kaiser is now recommending it. This company that made the o2 ring, then sold it and produced the newer circle plus ring. They say it's increased accuracy has to do with more stability of the ring on the finger.
It would be helpful if you could check whether there is a way to sync this with Oscar software.

I noticed today, that one of the NHS Hospital Trusts, here in the UK is using the Viatom "Check Me O2" Pulse Oximeter (Very similar to the O2 Ring, and uses same phone app) for initial home assessment

So if its good enough for them, it can't be too bad? I've been very happy with mine - although if I bought again, I might go for the convenience of use of the O2 Ring)

I had both a Viatom O2 Ring and the Checkme Wrist Unit.

Family was having a COPD exacerbation. Took them to ER. Needless to say the Viatom device wasn't accurate.

Doesn't the NHS go for what is cheapest and, in this case, give them some very rough screening?

I would never use the considerations of a public health system as a guide, because they -necessariily - think of how to serve as many people as possible, and not of giving the best possible quality of service. Example: Some years ago I was told that in the UK the NHS will only fund cataract operations on one eye per patient - because that lets them serve double the number of patients. People will be blind in one eye, eventually, but they'll get used to it. Other examples from other NHS systems: the quality and number of hearing aids you'll get. And the type of CPAP machine they will fund.

They have their understandable budgetary consideration, I have mine.
