So, I've been on CPAP for over 10+ years, I recently lost some weight and have been feeling tired in the day. So I decided to go do a sleep study. I was previosuly at 10 and now he says I can go around 6. But the doc says a higher number won't cause me to be sleepy. I've heard on the contrary. what is the common opinion on having higher than needed cpap therapy? I didn't lower it yet, becuase i also have some leg twitching before going to bed and got a RX for nerves. He wants to change one item at a time to see what helps.
I also am going to get a new machine with APAP. Prob the ResMed Airsence 11.

Is it possible that after so long you still don't understand how Cpap works? Most of us use it in Apap mode rather than Cpap (or fixed pressure) mode, and two pressures are set - one maximum - usually left at 20, and a minimum that most start out with at e.g. 6 and move up if necessary to a higher min. setting of anywhere from 8 thru 12 or so (higher and you may get aerophagia). But the point is that it's the lower (minimum) # that's doing the work re apneas, not the high one, so if you really are at a fixed pressure (plain Cpap) vs Apap (2 settings to adjust) you haven't said what it is, so it's hard for us to advise. Thing is - lowering the minimum setting (of e.g 5 or 8 or 11) is counterproductive and would make your apnea worse, not better. so either your doctor doesn't understand how the machine works or you don't (or I'm misunderstanding something). But as you want an Airsense 11, it's be a whole new thing unless you keep it in Cpap mode with both pressures at the same #, which would seem pointless in terms of having a new Apap if you're only going to use one setting (or really both min and max at the same setting).

The effects of any type of setting or therapy are difficult to gauge without proper data.
You've uploaded your OSCAR data in the past - take a look at it now and please upload it if you want our opinion.
Yes, too high pressure can disrupt your sleep.
If the doctor saw the analysis of your sleep study, he probably knows more than we do at this point.
Maybe he has a good reason to focus on the PLM's and not on the pressure.

It harms nothing. If you're used to it, there's no harm.
