Yeah its kind of ironic but realistically how often have you seen new software introduced that didn't have bugs of some type it in? Software development is a fairly complex task, its hard (if not impossible) to get it perfect the first time.
Wulfman wrote:If the problem is actually in the Encore Pro program, SOMEBODY didn't test it very well before they released the software.
Thats true but after having worked in the telco field for 12+ years I can tell you that thinking up every possible test scenario can be tricky. Since this bug doesn't happen every time its this type of bug that often only shows up in the field. Not defending them I just have seen this type of thing happen a lot in software development.
Wulfman wrote:OR....did somebody make a firmware change in the machines after the first version of EP 1.6 was tested and released?
Yep thats possible too.

I think it would be a lot less painful for us users if they would just fess up to problems and release patches to fix major problems between major releases.
Alisha wrote:Also, why isn't the Summary of Daily Details always for the last 7 days?
The smart card will hold a maximum of seven sessions (not days). This can result in less than seven days being in the report as a report will only show detailed data from a single download.
Alisha wrote:What do you software 1.6 users think?
Yeah I agree they should upgrade anyone having the missing days problem. Will they? I'd be surprised, lets hope I'm wrong.

They don't have to.......WE'RE not supposed to be using it.

$95 seems like a lot of money to me. But if 50 of us chipped $2, we could buy it collectively and "spread the love".

Poor choice of words on my part. I should have said erase, not reformat. I don't think I've lost any data since using this six day (session) erase schedule.

Thanks, greyhound, I'll start doing that. It's a little inconvenient, but the alternative would be $95 for v1.8!

Okay, as I mentioned, I contacted Respironics again with a request they do something about this problem. Here was their answer:

That problem is a known bug in Encore Pro v1.6. Sadly, we do not have a patch to correct the 1.6 version, we just have our customers upgrade to v1.8. We provide these upgrades free of charge to customers that already have earlier versions of Encore Pro. I would hope that the company you purchased the software from would follow this same practice.

So anyone who actually purchased it from Respironics needs to get in touch with them. All others will have to purchase.

If they knew they had a bug why did the "let it ride" over into 1.7?

Sloppy coding, to me.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Why else? They don't care that many of us don't have enough extra to buy all the newest gidgets, gadgets and software.

Faulty Medical Software

Post by bgalb » Fri Mar 30, 2007 5:02 pm

This is really inexcusable. (medical software that produces defective data). Prompt replacement of defective software with an update that works is the very least one could expect. Respironics deserves a "Software Clowns" award. I write software for free distribution and would be ashamed to put out a product that didn't work correctly. A company that charges a significant amount of their medical software is without excuse!

So it sounds like cpap.com should provide free upgrades to anyone that has an old version of Encore Pro?

Wouldn't cpap.com be a Respironics' customer and be provided free upgrades of v1.8 for the v1.6 software they got from Respironics?

I hate to burst people's bubble, but I have 1.8 and I just experienced the missing data problem. No details for my last night of sleep.

Upgrading to 1.8 doesn't seem to be a fix for this.
